Lynwood Henderson Obituary

Lynwood Junior Henderson, age 77, of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, went to be with the Lord at his home surrounded by his family on Jan. 18, 2016. Lynwood was born on Jan. 30, 1938, in Opp, Alabama. He was the son of Willie Jim Paige Henderson and Charlie Junior Henderson, both of Opp. "L.J." as he was fondly called by his close friends and family, is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 55 years, Shelby Jean Henderson; his three children, Timothy L. Henderson (Shirley), Michael L. Henderson (Alison), and Gina H. Forbes (Troy); and eight grandchildren, Hunter Forbes, Taylor Forbes, Jake Henderson, Sawyer Henderson, Benton Henderson, Hollyn Cate Henderson, Luke Henderson and Brooke Henderson.
In 1955, L.J. was a member of the Company 55-215 Naval Unit at the Naval Training Center in San Diego, California. Upon leaving the Navy, L.J. embarked on a successful career in the Commercial Building industry, working for Bear Brothers Construction in Montgomery, Alabama. In 1969, L.J. and Shelby moved to the Florida Gulf Coast. An entrepreneur at heart, L.J. formed his own company, L.J. Henderson Construction, based on the principle of hard work and honesty.
L.J. was an active member of the Hadji Shriners, York Rite Masonic Body, Alpha Lodge 172 of Fort Walton Beach, Destin's Lion's Club, a Deacon and member of the First Baptist Church of Destin, Florida, as well as an avid supporter of numerous local charities, foundations and sports.
L.J.'s most memorable times were those spent sharing and enjoying time in the deer woods with his close family and friends. Through his love for the outdoors he was able to pass on many life lessons to his children and grandkids. His family will always remember his eager trigger finger, love for fried mullet and willingness to help out others in a time of need.
A time of visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 22, from 1 to 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Destin, with funeral services following immediately thereafter. Interment will follow in Destin Memorial Cemetery
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the First Baptist Church of Destin, or Emerald Coast Hospice.
