Maxie Grissett Obituary

Maxie Grissett, age 91, left her earthly home in Niceville, Fla., on Sept. 12, 2013, and is now with our Heavenly Father and her beloved husband, Cleb Grissett, who preceded her in death. Maxie was born Sept 22, 1921, in Opp, Ala., to Thomas Olin Pittman and Julia Macken-Vae Cotton Pittman also from Opp.
Maxie was a faithful church member belonging to the First Baptist Church of Valparaiso and later moved her membership to the First Baptist Church of Niceville where she was active until her illness left her unable to attend. Maxie's love of sewing, crafting, and gardening inspired so many in the Niceville community that her teachings have been passed down from mothers to daughters to granddaughters. The cheerleaders and band members from Ruckel Middle School to Niceville High were also the beloved recipients of this remarkable lady's talents.
Her weekly meetings with her infamous sewing circle and her monthly sorority gave proof to the fact that she gave of herself time and time again. God gave this woman a gift few have had the ability to learn let alone master and that was her love, passion, and talent for gardening. So much so, that she was an avid member of the Niceville Garden Club for many years. It is a known fact that she now has a beautiful and flowing garden in His kingdom.
Maxie was preceded in death in by her husband, Cleb Grissett, two sisters, and four brothers. She is survived by a brother, John Coleman Pittman, better known as Jake, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a daughter, Debi Grissett Blackwood and husband, Dale; son, Tim Grissett and daughter-in-law, Jennifer; three grand children, Jeremy, Justin, and Timothy; and six great-grandchildren, Ariel, Hunter, Bailey, Gwynneth, Alexis, and Heidi.
There will be a viewing with family and friends on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at Twin Cities Funeral Home on John Sims Pkwy in Niceville, Fla., from 5 to 7 p.m.
Twin Cities Funeral Home in Niceville is entrusted with the arrangements with services at The First Baptist Church of Niceville on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at 11 a.m. Internment and burial will follow at Heritage Gardens in Niceville following the services.

My prayers go out to the entire family. I remember going over to Maxi's when I first moved to the neighborhood. I introduced myself and we ended up shellin' peas together for the afternoon... it gave me a wonderful sense of comfort. She will be missed.
