Kevin Michael Click, age 65, of Wonder Lake, died Tuesday, August 1, 2017, at Centegra Hospital-McHenry after a courageous battle with cancer.

Kevin was born December 26, 1951 in Chicago to Edward and Virginia (Serowka) Click. On July 14, 1979, he married Patricia Wienrich at St. Thomas Church in Crystal Lake. A resident of Wonder Lake since 1978, Kevin was a dedicated educator at Harrison School in Wonder Lake. He received his B. A. Degree from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, followed by his Master's Degree from Walden University. He enjoyed a 26-year career with School District 36, where he was Harrison School's art teacher. Prior to his career in the field of education, Kevin was employed for 13 years as a supervisor for a company that manufactured computer tape for the government.

Kevin was active at Harrison School with the Environmental Club, the Art Club as well as the Chess Club, and was in charge of Harrison School's Prairie Garden for many years. For 22 years, he volunteered for the McHenry County Conservation District as a bluebird monitor, and also volunteered at the Volo Bog for bird walks and with the Youth Art Guild. Kevin served as a bluebird, owl, and sand hill crane monitor for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, and participated in Fox Waterway cleanup activities. Kevin was a member of the Audubon Society of McHenry County and the State of Illinois, and a member of the Lake County Astronomical Society. One of Kevin's favorite places to visit was Glacier National Park in Montana. He loved the Siberian Husky dog breed and enjoyed raising huskies. Kevin even managed his own dogsled team for many years. He was a noted fan of the music of Frank Zappa and he was an avid reader.

McHenry County Conservation District's Staff and Volunteers send our condolences to the Click Family. Kevin will be remembered as one of our most dedicated partners in conservation, best known for his 22 years of devotion to bluebird monitoring and helping young people build a relationship with the natural world through prairie gardening and habitat restoration. At an interview for a Landscapes article featuring Kevin's contributions as a volunteer, he said, The iconic Eastern Bluebird occupies a special place in our folklore, in our culture, and in my heart. Everything about this bird's appearance, song and behavior says devotion to family, loyal fidelity to their mate, and an abounding joy for life. No wonder the bluebird is associated with happiness! Perhaps his words also describe the legacy that Kevin left for us. Thank you for sharing Kevin with us. We wish you strength in this difficult time.

Mr. Click was by far one of the best teachers I've ever had. Every art project was special because it was created by us. It didn't matter if anyone else liked it or understood it. Thank you Mr Click. I had you as an art teacher, and recess monitor for K-8 you truly made a difference. Rest easy.
