Marion T. Graff, born November 25, 1928 died on June 14, 2023. Marion was a firm and devout Catholic, dedicated to her God, her family and her many friends. Marion had been an organist and also sang in the choir at St. Mary's Catholic Church in McHenry for many years. She had an accomplished singing voice. Marion was also the organist at Immaculate Conception Church in Mattoon, Illinois.
There were many things that Marion did over the years that people admired. She liked to mow lawns, paint houses both inside and out, participate in different social gatherings, deliver meals on wheels and work as manager in a used clothing store in Bull Shoals, Arkansas. Marion and her husband Bob (Robert F. Graff) worked to get approval to open a Catholic Charites shop in Mattoon. They were successful and Marion as a manager of the shop, developed a staff of volunteers.
Marion was steadfast in all of her commitments, particularly those involving her family. Her first husband, Raymond Kennebeck, died in an industrial accident leaving her to support her five children. She did so despite heavy financial challenges. Some time later she married Charles Nelson, a widower who brought his three children into her life. When Chuck passed away of a heart attack, Marion succeeded in raising all eight children. Subsequently she married Bob who had six children of his own, though by this time several of all children were in adulthood. Further tests of her faith and commitments to life were brought on by the deaths of two of her natural children, Michael and David. Also, the three children she cross adopted with Chuck.
At the time of her death, Marion had 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Also she was enthusiastically interested in Bob's 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 19, 2023 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in McHenry, Illinois beginning at 10:00am and concluding at 11:00am. Funeral Mass will immediately follow. Interment will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in McHenry, Illinois.
