Arthur Giese Obituary

Arthur E. "Art" Giese, Jr. Portage Arthur E. Giese, Jr. age 74, of Portage, IN passed away at his home on Friday night, June 3, 2005. Art was born in Gary, IN, on July 22, 1930 to Arthur E. Giese, Sr. and Kathryn Giese. Art was employed at US Steel Corporation with 36-1/2 years service and was retired as head of maintenance at the #1 BOP Shop. He also enjoyed helping out his son Ed, at his business, Lake Station Heating and Air Conditioning since retiring from the mill. Art was active with the Miller Chapter of the Isaac Walton League and was a member of the US Steel Supervisor's Club. A lifelong fan of auto racing, Art also enjoyed camping, fishing, boating and playing with his grandchildren. Candidly known as "Mr. Fix It!" family, friends, and neighbors always knew they could turn to Art to solve any problem or repair. Art is preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Lori Giese. Art is survived by his loving wife, Irene C. Giese (nee Cervantes); six children: Arthur "Ed" (Janice) Giese III of Chesterton, IN, Kathy (Giese) Johnson of Portage, IN, Kevin Lee Giese of Chesterton, IN, Mike (Trish) Giese of Schererville, IN, Gina (Jamie) Giese-Hurst of Portage, IN and Jim Giese of Valparaiso, IN; nine grandchildren: Michele and Mandy Stanton, Adam, Austin, Rachel, and Hannah Giese, Robby Johnson, Marissa and Lauren Hurst; cousin; Ed (Jenny) Schroll of Portage,IN. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at 11:30 am at the Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage, IN, with Rev. Walter J. Rakoczy officiating. Burial at Blake Cemetery, Portage, IN. Friends may call on Tuesday from 2 to 9 PM at the Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, Portage, IN. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be given to the American Cancer Society in Art's Memory. For more information, call 219-762-3013.
