I just saw a posting on Facebook that said in memory of Danny and I recognized his face in the team photo immediately. My heart sunk. I played basketball with Danny at St. Peter & Paul for a couple of years. My parents told me the story long ago that they had looked at the home in Merrillville that Danny's folks eventually purchased before making a decision on the home I grew up in. I will always remember Danny as a happy person, a kind soul who could jump higher than anyone on the team regardless of their height! I am very sad.

My deepest sympathy is with the Hanlon family. I worked with Dan at Fidelity and thought he was one of the nicest & engaging people. His warm disposition and infectious laughter was evident when ever he was around. Dan will be missed by the many that he came in contact with. Thoughts and prayers.

Maggie:

I am so very saddened to hear about Dan.

I just was doing some random checking on his name today and came across this information. The city of Merrillville I kept seeing and I know that is where Dan is from so I wanted to search him.

You remember me I worked at Fidelity in Cincinnati. I even stayed at your house once.

Your family will be in my prayers. I loved Dan he was a great friend to me and someone I admired.

Our family was blessed to know the Hanlons when we lived in Hopkinton. Both Dan and Maggie embody warmth, friendship and hospitality...they always made us feel like the only people in the room. I read every single entry in this guestbook and find it refreshing that Dan was truly a gifted athlete. As all of you know in Hopkinton, we heard lots of stories and it is nice to know they are actually true:) Dan left a legacy of how to live your life and how to set your priorities. I will always value his smile and sincerity in everything he did. What a joy he and his family are for all of us. God bless.

Maggie, I don't even know what to say. It has taken me this long to even think of saying anything. There are very few people that I really look forward to seeing. Dan was one of them. He made everyone that he came in contact with feel special. That quality is so rare and precious. I am truley honored to be able to say I knew Dan and that I could call him my friend. Vince, Gianna, and Cyndi send their love and prayers. Hope to see you all soon.

There is a tremendous hole in our hearts that cannot be filled. Dan was so many wonderful things to so many people. He positively impacted many, many lives in such a short time. None of us can believe that he is no longer with us, and he is terribly missed. Our memories of him will never fade, and we feel truly blessed for having had the chance to become friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with his entire family - especially Maggie, Barrett, Morgan, & Jenna - who began sharing their time with us when we all lived in Cincy. Dan is no doubt smiling down upon us, and you will all remain in our thoughts and prayers.

November 27, 2010

I was with Dan last February when we had the chance to meet with UConn's Jim Calhoun during his ING visit. I think I enjoyed Dan's enthusiasm as much as I did meeting the coach. Then I had the privilege of interviewing Dan for a company publication. He had so much positive energy and optimism. But nothing made him smile more than when he started talking about his family. He was obviously a very proud husband and father. My deepest sympathy to the Hanlon family.

November 27, 2010

I haven't seen Danny in years. I remember him as a great athlete, but more importantly, a great person. I always had at least one class each sememster with him at AHS and will always think of his warm smile and sense of humor. My prayers go out to the Hanlon family.

Maggie & the Children: Your Husband and Father was a bigger man than most, even as a child.
I grew up with Danny. Together we attended St. Andrews from grades 1-6, St. Peter & Paul from 7-8, and Andrean from 9-12. At the age of 8 or 9 Danny and I had a childhood dust up during a recess period over some rough play in the school yard. It was Danny who quickly came to me to mend things between us. At that moment, (while he was always the better athlete by far) he was also the stronger, more self aware, and better person. Apparently, it was this Danny, that became the Daniel so many of you came to respect, care for, and love. On behalf of the small group of us (boys & girls) who spent grades 1-12 together with Danny -please know that ALL our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. Forgive the short personal story, I just wanted his children to know that their Father was often the bigger man, even before he was a man.

Dr. Jonathan Truchan

November 26, 2010

I will ALWAYS remember Danny. Even though we haven't seen each other in years, he's often been in my thoughts, as we grew up together. He was the best athelete I've ever seen, bar none. He was the most driven, positive and genuine friend a person could want.I am deeply saddened by his untimely passing. My prayers are with all of his family at this difficult time. I will never forget Danny.

November 26, 2010

My deepest sympathy to Maggie and the kids. I knew Dan for more than 20 years at Fidelity. He was a great leader, mentor, and friend to many. He loved his family more than anything as he talked about them often. While I am deeply saddened I take comfort in the fact that Dan is with the Father...probably making Him laugh at this very moment.

November 26, 2010

Our prayers and thoughts are with the Hanlon family at this time of sorrow. His passion for life and infectious smile will be memories that will last forever. He was a leader whos example we should all follow.

You touched our lives like the warm brighness of the sun.

You will truly be missed.

Last time I saw Danny I was a cheerleader rooting him on at AHS. The picture of him is priceless and perfect as we always saw that bright, wonderful smile on his face. Gosh, I just can't believe someone so young and vibrant is no longer with us. We were blessed to have known him. May the wonderful memories you have of him help you through this hard time.

November 25, 2010

Maggie, Barrett, Morgan and Jenna, I cannot trutly tell you how I fill but I know Dan is with Uncle Larry, Aunt Nancy, and Kathy looking down on all of us with his love. Dan is a great cousin, friend, husband, dad, and brother and I will always remember our family time together whether in Indiana or Pittsburgh as kids or as adults at your house or on the phone. I will always remember "trying" to play ball with Dan but I could not keep up and there was no way I could out jump him even though I had him by some height. Dan always wanted the "Watson" height but he had the Hanlon/Yurcon blood. Dan will be missed but we will move on, as hard as it will be, and love our family here on earth. When God is ready, we will all meet back up with those we love who have passed and live forever. Our prayers and love are with you Maggie, Barrett, Morgan, Jenna, Therese & Marty, Larry & Liz, Matt & Lisa, Steph and Mike and all the kids. We will stay connected as a family.

November 25, 2010

Our Deepest sympathies to Maggie,Barrett, Morgan and Jenna and the extended Hanlon family. My thoughts and prayers are with the Hanlon family. While I only knew Dan a few months, I greatly admired his professionalism, enthusiasm and leadership. November 24, 2010

I only have happy memories of Danny at Andrean. He sat by me in Econ class one year, and made it his business to make me and Karen Brown laugh everyday. He was so excited when he was able to "accidentally" look up his IQ score in the school office. He looked up Karen's & mine, too, and was egging us on that he was a point or two higher than us! I cheered for most every game he played in high school, and remember how impressive he was in track & field. He always made me laugh, he was a friend to everyone. The world lost a very good man and we lost a dear friend!

Dan was my boss for over 2 years at ING. More than that he was a friend and mentor with whom I shared many special times. We traveled together and our one-on-one meetings would turn from 1 scheduled hour to 2 or 3 hours talking mainly about family, life, investing, etc...So many little things that I do throughout the day I think of Dan and still can't comprehend his passing. Maggie, Barrett, Jenna, and Morgan, your husband and dad loved you more than life, I know you know this. He shared a lot with me about you all and he lived his life for you all. You are enduring something no one should have to, I pray for you. My heart aches with you, but I know the best way to honor Dan is by living every moment to the fullest, by being kind to those around you, and by keeping family as your #1 priority in life. May God take of Dan in Heaven and may he watch over the Hanlon household.

Maggie and family: I am so sorry of the passing of your Husband/family. He was one of the most honest and sincere persons I've ever known and an overall nice guy. I know for a fact he derived those values from his parents and worked to pass that on to his kids. I was looking forward to seeing him at our 30th reunion, but our reunion will have to wait a while when we are reunited in heaven. Thanks for all the good times and overall happiness when I got to see you and talk to you. May the Lord comfort your family in their time of sorrow, and may he welcome his child Daniel home to everlasting life.

We would have needed you around a whole lot longer Danny!! Rest peacefully in the loving arms of the Hanlons who have gone before you. You will be missed terribly.

This picture embodies the Dan I remember, a warm smile and friend to everyone. May his children know that quality about him, even back then. My deepest sympathy is with his family.

Prayers to the entire Hanlon family. To know Danny and his family growing up was and remains a blessing to those of us who were fortunate to have done so. Dan was a part of a huge family of friends in Indiana that was lucky to have him. A great friend, tremendous athlete and wonderful sportsman who competed with such natural ease and confidence.

I was sad to hear about Dan's passing. I have great memories of him doing flips and crazy dives off the diving board at the pool, and his awesome ability to jump in both basketball and track. He always had a smile and a great attitude. I am so sorry for your loss.

I always remember Dan having a smile on his face. He was one of those guys that always seemed to be positive and laughter would often follow his presence. Dan will be greatly missed. My sincere condolences to Maggie and his kids and his entire family. It sounds so cliché to say he was a great guy.. But.. He truly was one of the best. My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this most difficult time! May you find comfort in all the love that surrounds you. ~Carrieann (Fidelity Employee)
