GLEN "VIC" BRUEGMANN IRON RIVER

Glen "Vic" Bruegmann, age 82, of Iron River, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, February 20, 2012. Glen was born on October 21, 1929 in Chicago Heights, IL. He spent his childhood in Thornton, IL with his parents: Arthur and Lillian (Polkow) Bruegmann. He graduated from Thornton High School in 1948. In 1951, he joined the U.S. Army and served as a military policeman during the Korean War. Glen married Ruth Dykema in 1951 and they moved to nearby Lansing, IL in 1953. For several years, Glen worked as a heavy equipment operator, helping to develop the Chicago O'Hare International Airport and the South Side Express System in Chicago. During the off seasons, he worked as a security guard at Republic Steel in East Chicago, IN and as a special police officer for Lansing, IL. In 1965, Glen joined the Lansing Police Department as a full- time police officer. He retired in 1985 as a shift commander with the rank of lieutenant. In 1973, Glen married Connie Coster, a teacher and coach (and a 1963 graduate) at Thorton Fractional South High School in Lansing, IL. In 1988, Glen and Connie moved to Iron River, where he joined the Lions Club, became a member of the Police and Fire Commission, and joined the Iron River VFW as a life member. Glen served as post commander for 10 years. Glen is survived by his wife, Connie Bruegmann of Iron River, sister, Barbara Claus/ Leone of Hobart, IN; nephew, Robbie Claus of Thorton, IL; two children: Sue Ellen (Larry) Nelson of Rockford, IL and Thomas (Therese) Bruegmann of Calumet City, IL; and mother of his children, Ruth Bruegmann of Lansing, IL. Glen has five grandchildren; and one great grandson. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2012 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. to celebrate Vic's life. Rosemoor Funeral Home, 17943 S.
