Herman Sutton Obituary

HERMAN KELLY SUTTON, M.D. MARSEILLES, IL
Herman Kelly Sutton, M.D., 84, passed away peacefully at his home in Marseilles on September 5, 2013. As a dedicated physician, Kelly always wanted to give back to medicine, and in keeping with his request, his body will be donated to medical science. The family will honor his request of a private celebration of his life to be held at a later date. If desired, donations may be made in Dr. Sutton’s name to the 1st Congregational Church of Marseilles or the City of Marseilles. Kelly was born on July 2, 1929, in Eldorado, IL to Herman and Viva Irene Sutton. His mother died when Kelly was five years old, and he was raised by his father and special aunt, Neda Kane. Kelly was a graduate of the University of Illinois and later obtained his medical degree in 1954 from the University of Illinois School of Medicine. Also in 1954, Kelly married Seattle Remboldt, and after a one-year medical internship, he served two years as an officer in the United States Air Force. In 1957 Kelly and Seattle moved to Marseilles, and he began his practice in family medicine which lasted until his retirement in 1996. Throughout his many years as a family physician, Kelly treated each and every patient with care and respect. During this time, he also served as president/chief of staff at Ottawa Hospital. He served for nine years on the Marseilles School Board, and he was a trustee and deacon at the 1st Congregational Church of Marseilles. Kelly also served as a Mason for 50 years. In his leisure time, Kelly enjoyed playing golf and cards with his friends, reading, and spending evenings with Seattle on their back patio. Kelly is survived by his wife of over 59 years, Seattle. He is also survived by son, Chris and wife, Simone of Everett, WA; daughter, Paula Heaton and husband, Jimmy of Southlake, TX; son, Peter and wife, Terri of San Jose, CA; daughter, Ruth Egofske and husband, Dave of Crown Point, IN; and daughter, Sarah Borgstrom and husband, Bob of Morris, IL. In addition, Kelly is survived by 14 grandchildren including Michael Kelly, Blake and Melina Sutton (children of Chris and Simone); Natalie Heaton Brouse (and husband Kam) and Reece Heaton (and wife Cynthia) (children of Paula and Jimmy); Zachary and Alyssa Sutton (children of Peter and Terri); Anna, Kayla and Leah Egofske (children of Ruth and Dave); and Erin, Molly, Bret and Ryan Borgstrom (children of Sarah and Bob). Kelly is also survived by four great grandsons: Gehrig and Dexter Heaton (children of Reece and Cynthia) and Ezra and Shepherd Brouse (children of Natalie and Kam). Additional surviving family members include his brother, David Sutton and wife, Kay of Maine; his brother Fred Sutton and wife, Judy of Germantown, TN; his aunt, Neda Kane of Carmi, IL, and cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
