I am saddened to learn of the passing of "Mr. Mehling", and send my deepest sympathy to his family. Mr. Mehling was one of the very best teachers that I ever had as a student, and one of the best teachers I have ever observed since I became a biology teacher myself. His work was excellent, but his greatest influence and contribution to his students and others was his kind, generous, and pleasant disposition. I am so happy and fortunate to have known him however briefly.

I worked with Paul at Lake Central from 1993-97 and I could not have asked for a better department head or friend. My thoughts are with the family and I know he will be missed.

Dear Judy,
You and your family have our sincere condolences. Paul was a very unique person who had a keen sense of humor and a very positive attitude toward life.

His success working with his students during his 35 years of teaching was very important. He certainly had a blessed life.

Sandy and I are so glad that we were privileged to introduced you two nearly 50 years ago.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you!

Blessings,
Stan and Sandy Hurst

Paul was the reason I wound up teaching. He treated me as an equal even when I was student teaching under him. He always had a smile and a joke for everyone. I missed his company when I left Lake Central and think of him often. Condolences to his family.

Paul was the department chair when I started teaching at Lake Central 20 years ago. He was the best boss anyone could ask for. He knew science and he knew how to get it across to teenagers. He was also a genuinely nice man. The world has lost a good one!
