Dear Dr. Norton: Because you loved orange male kittens, here's a late crop from the farm, just in time for Christmas, all orange and all male. I'm certain you are smiling now because you once said this would be your idea of heaven.

Sad to think that it's been six years since our wonderful Dr. Norton passed away.

Oh, this makes me so sad! I was googling for current contact info for Dr. Norton, and came upon her obituary.

Dr. Norton cared for my cat Bonk and my Pomeranian Maxine when I lived in Brooklyn Heights in the early 2000s, and her quirky, lovely intelligence made both them and me comfortable. Her skills were matched only by her joy for life - We'd love to swap travel stories of the latest beautiful trips we'd had, every vet visit. After Maxine got into some dark chocolate, she remarked on the 'results' of the doggie ipecac, "well, she certainly had good taste in chocolate with that lovely cocoa!"

Definitely one to be missed. Very happy I knew you, Dr. Norton...

Among all the vets we've used, Dr. Norton stands out as the one we loved and trusted the most. Her warmth, sense of humor, intelligence, compassion, interest in and concern for her furry patients and their 2-legged folks was marvelous. And her ability to calm our anxieties, make us laugh, and simply enjoy taking our kids to her, whether for a regular check-up or at times of more serious problems. We always knew, you see, that she would know just what to do and what to say, and that her loving heart and healing hands were there for us and our furry babies.
Our beautiful tuxedo cat, Hodge, (a very fine cat, indeed) and the most loving, gentle, sweet-natured cat who has ever graced the planet, was a gift to us from Dr. Norton; one of the foundlings that she would suggest that people take home "for the weekend," just to see how everyone would get along. She had "a lifetime guarantee," she told us, if it didn't work out, and she picked Hodge out for us, telling us that he was shy and sensitive, and needed us. What she didn't know is that we'd grow to need him just as much.
I'm glad that I had a chance to tell her, perhaps a year before she let us know that she was giving up her practice because she had just been diagnosed, that Hodge is the love of my life. Now that we know she's gone, we are even more grateful for Hodge's presence, since he reminds us of her loving, caring, smiling, welcoming, giving self. What a wonderful woman! Rest in peace, Dr. Norton.

Dr. Norton saw several of my cats when she practiced at the HVH in Brooklyn. She was wonderful. I've been meaning to find her in the hopes that she was still practicing, only to see this.

She was a great vet. Knowledgeable and practical.

I stumbled upon this obituary by surprise--I was hoping to reach her to let her know about the death of another of her co-workers at the Heights Vet. I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Norton when I was in high school, 1987-90. She was awesome--gentle, great sense of humor, exotic (she'd just returned from Zimbabwe at the time), pretty (the most substantial head of hair I'd seen on an adult at that point), brave (lived at the Y during her relocation to NY). I'm very sad that she died before we had a chance to reconnect, and that I found out this way. I have a photo I'd love to contribute that demonstrates the camaraderie in the office when she, Dr. Turoff, Bill, Karen and I worked there--but I don't know that I can add it after posting this. I hope those who were close to her take comfort in the knowledge that Dr. Norton is not forgotten and that there's another sad heart in the world at the realization that she's no longer with us. Condolences to all.

I worked with Dr. Norton at the Heights Vet when I was in high school, circa 1987-90. I remember her sense of humor and gentleness clearly, even after all these years. I came across this obituary accidentally--I was trying to notify her that a co-worker of hers from the past had passed away--and now I'm doubly sad that my opportunity to reconnect with her is gone. When I knew her, she had traveled to Zimbabwe and practiced there for a while, had moved back to NY and was living (temporarily) at the Y. Brave, modest, great hair.... I'm really sad she's gone.

I worked with Dr. Norton at the Prospect Park Animal Clinic in 1991. She was a beautiful lady who encouraged me to continue my studies and strive for the best. I was impressed by her knowlege of Medicine, and her caring nature which shined through in everything she did. There wasn't a stray that came through that office that Dr. Norton did not try to keep.

This is sad news. At those times when we had a sick little furry friend on our hands, it was comforting to know that she would be cared for by this beautifully compassionate and intelligent woman. Dr. Norton was our neighborhood vet - she was as sound a doctor as she was loving and gentle when she treated her animal patients - a superb human being. This complex world has lost "one of the good ones!"

I am truly saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Norton. She was a kind and compassionate human being whom I will always remember fondly. I adopted four of my cats from her and I am forever indebted to her. Rest in Peace.

She will never be replaced. Dr. Norton took care of my pugs while I lived in Brooklyn from 1999-2006. She was always calling to check on my dogs even on the weekend if they were not well. Her genuine concern for my babies will hold a special place in my heart forever. Missing her terribly.

Dr. Norton was wonderful to us and our animals and we were sorry when she left Brooklyn Heights Vet. She was warm and yet professional, and an extremely good listener. She took her time during appointments and was interested in our lives outside of our animals. She chose not to muzzle our aggressive dog, but confidently and calmly administered his meds in a way he tolerated. We will miss her. She was an old-fashioned doctor in the best sense.

Dr. Norton was an incredible person and talented veterinarian. Not only was she beautiful and talented , but she truly cared and connected with everyone!!! She will be sorely missed! What a tragedy...so young and talented. Christina made the world a better place and I am better for it.

Dr. Norton was lovely in so many ways. Kind, smart and charming, she was a joy to know. Her loss is astounding. She was tireless in her efforts to get homes for dogs and cats, especially the red ones born on Mr. Griffith's farm. My red male, Clifford, is one nice cat given to me by an extraordinary person. I miss her.

I first met Dr. Norton in 1989. A friend with whom I spoke almost daily , she was my co-conspirator in adopting out (orange male) kittens from my farm in Pennsylvania. A wonderful vet, whose motto was "one shouldn't have to be a millionaire to own a pet", she was amusing, gracious and vivacious. Soave sia il vento.

Dr. Norton took care of my pets for more than 10 years. She was instrumental in making me understand the need to adopt another dog when one of mine died unexpectedly and the remaining animal went into depression. Her unstinting and loving care of the animals whose care was entrusted to her was unmatched. I loved hearing her talk about the Wagner operas she attended whenever and wherever. Me and my dogs will keep her in our memory until we too cross the rainbow bridge. We will sorely miss her.

I had the good fortune of meeting Dr. Norton in 1999. She was my veterinarian in Brooklyn Heights from 1999-2006 and took care of my pugs and two cats. Not only did she take a personal interest in all of my animals, she would call to check on them even on the weekend to see if they were ok. Her class, empathy with animals and caring nature can never be replicated. It is with a heavy heart I say "thank you" from the bottom of my heart to one of the most caring Veterinarian's I have ever met.
