I think of David all the time. I chose my barber, Peter, because David recommended him. Every time I go to a doctor I wonder: Why do you lack the bedside manner of David Pearce? In a close play at home plate in Sag Harbor softball, David would devilishly use his foot brace to bock the plate. Always with a smile.

I keep David's memory alive in an unusual way. Every three weeks I grab my iPhone and under Contacts look up, "David's Barber." For years when I passed the barber shop on Lexington Avenue in the early morning I would see David seated in the barber chair. He said he went, if memory serves, a couple of times per week. Why? "I love Peter," he told me, "He gives a great haircut." More recently, when searching for a new barber, I recalled David's words. Once again, I followed David's words.

A man of parts, a fine doctor, a good friend whose intellectual curiosity was wide-ranging. He was as familiar with rare books as with college sports. His thoughtfulness to his friends knew no bounds. Our whole family mourns his death.

I was deeply saddened to hear of David's passing. Although almost a generation apart, I grew up with him as virtually another sibling, spending summers canoeing with him in East Hampton, discussing business and philosophy, sharing many good friends, and of course seeing him professionally for decades. He was a very special person and will be sorely missed.

David will be missed by his classmates from Lawrence High School, Class of l956. He was a good friend and an outstanding student. Rest in Peace David.

I was shocked when I read of David's passing. David was a friend of mine since Lawrence High School. Recently he was my opthalmologist. I always looked forward to seeing him and reminiscing about the old times. I remember playing softball with him in the Hamptons. He loved playing.
Arlene & I will miss him.

David was my friend since our mothers wheeled us together in baby carriages. and a great buddy in youth and beyond. As my eye doctor i marveled at his competence and dedication. He left no stone unturned in his own treatment and in sending me to specialists. I will be very sad at the time of my scheduled appointment next week.

I write with sadness and gratitude for the many years of consummate care and wonderful friendship that David gave and shared so generously with my parents, George and Zara, my wife Evelyne and me. He was unique, a wonderful doctor and human being, caring for others and celebrating life. We will not forget him.

On each of my visits to David's phenomenal office, he would ask what concerts I had attended. It was a pleasure to exchange that kind of information with him. His care and concern these many years is not replaceable. Hoping he will pack the Hermann Scherchen cd of Mahler's 7th Symphony I shared with him on his new journey. For a man of his cultural elegance, there are so many things to accompany him.

We will deeply miss David, whom we knew for years both as ophthalmologist and friend. His office waiting room was a wonderful picture gallery, of cartoon, "cuttings" and his own beautiful photographs of coastal Maine. We were lucky to have known him.

David's empathy and concern for patients was unique. His reception room with its artwork and framed writing from esteemed artists and writers in his care was unique in its way. As was David. The Corman family was privileged to know him.

David was a terrific doctor and a great friend. He would call and check on me and check with other doctors to assure my care. He loved to reminisce about the 'old days' when life was more refined as he was the ultimate refined gentleman. I will miss his many kindnesses.

A STERLING MAN OF ENORMOUS CURIOSITY FOR WIDE RANGING SUBJECTS LIKE A JUST HEARD PERLMAN RECITAL OR THE LATEST HACKING JACKET FASHION FROM LONDON OR SPRING TRAINING IN FLORIDA WITH THE YANKEES. TO THE DELIGHT OF US, HIS MANY FRIENDS, HE HAD A CHILDLIKE EAGERNESS TO SHARE IT ALL, CONSTANTLY SENDING CLIPS (DAVID PREFERRED THE BRITISHISM 'CUTTINGS') THAT HE CORRECTLY GUESSED WOULD ENCHANT THE RECIPIENT. HIS WAITING ROOM, WITH ITS FRAMED AND SIGNED DRAWINGS AND CARTOONS AND APHORISMS, WAS EACH MORNING A SALON FOR WRITERS AND ARTISTS AND MUSICIANS. ONE FRAME SHOWCASED AN INTERNAL NEW YORK TIMES MEMO ADVISING THAT 'OPHTHAMOLOGIST' WAS ONE OF THE MOST FREQUENTLY MISSPELLED WORDS IN THE PAPER AND WARNING, DO IT AGAIN AND YOU'LL LIKELY HEAR FROM A 'CERTAIN EAST SIDE EYE DOCTOR'. MANY FROM DAVID'S SALON HAVE PRECEDED HIM IN DEATH, AND I HOPE HE IS TOGETHER WITH THEM ALL AGAIN NOW.

Just a wonderful man.Yes, he was an awesome doctor, but what we remember most about David was his genuine interest in others. He'd call to report on our daughter's visits just to say her eyes were good. He'd call on a birthday, anniversary, making us wonder how he knew. He'd calling the early morning to see if we read something in the papers or to share news of a death. Now we share his death, and we're bereft.
