David was one of my most important teachers at the Collegiate School in Manhattan, and I was deeply affected upon hearing the news of his passing. With love and deepest sympathies to his entire family... Nicholas Sands

I had the privilege of being a student of David´s at Exeter in the early 70´s and as an A-S alum was absolutely thrilled when he became Headmaster. By every measurement, he was a magnificent Head, not least for his immense humanity and his dedication to developing students´ characters and community service. We are all as diminished by his passing as we were the better for knowing him.

He was a fantastic Headmaster. The school grew academically as well as its physical plant
He gave guidance to the school with a steady hand, a kind heart, and with a welcoming smile to every young man who entered the school each day. I still remember the topics of his Morning Meetings on Monday. His comments and conversations were precise and thoughtful. He was an outstanding leader and compassionate individual. My condolences to his wife, daughter, and the rest of his family.
His was a life well lived.

So very sad to hear this news. My husband and I just saw David at the Memorial for Mr. Kersey two weeks ago and he seemed well and happy and told us how much he was enjoying his retirement. Just sad that he did not have time to enjoy more of it! He will be much missed and always brought happiness and joy to the world with his smile.
