DONALD STOTT Obituary

STOTT--Donald B. A retired Wall Street Executive, passionate big game fisherman and wine collector, passed away on December 25, 2020 in West Palm Beach, FL at the age of 81. For all of Don's achievements and accomplishments, his most significant legacy will be his immense generosity and kindness. He touched and changed numerous lives, and will be deeply missed by family, friends, and colleagues. Born on January 18, 1939 in New York City, he was the son of Robert L. Stott and Mary Laase Stott. He graduated from The Taft School in 1956 and Princeton University in 1960. Don went on to receive an MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. After Wharton, Donald joined Wagner, Stott & Company, a New York Stock Exchange specialist firm, co-founded by his father, former NYSE Chairman Robert L. Stott. Don developed a reputation as a bold trader and skilled executive and served as Senior Managing Partner for several decades overseeing a period of significant expansion. During his tenure, Don served as a director of the New York Futures Exchange and was a former governor and director of the New York Stock Exchange. Donald lived a vibrant life filled with lifelong friendships and passions. He fished the most remote destinations in the world, but his greatest passion was Blue Fin Tuna, and his first love was New England. He built a lifetime friendship with the Murray family and would fish with them for over four decades. Donald also built what Sotheby's Wine called "the most important collection of Burgundy to ever appear on the market". Sotheby's auctioned, The Don Stott Cellars: 50 Year of Collecting, over four installments starting in 2015 and ending in 2019. Donald is survived by his nephews David and Lawrence Stott, stepson Christopher Quinn, step-grandchildren Meeghan and Hailey Quinn, numerous cousins, friends, and colleagues. His brother Robert L. Stott, Jr. and stepson Nicholas Quinn predeceased him.

A teacher, mentor, friend who accepted me as family...there isn’t a person in my world who doesn’t know about our Don. Larger than life, generous to a fault, he allowed me freedoms to learn in his garden, readily shared exceptional wines, recounted amazing stories, and included me in his fantastic world. To say I will miss him and the wonderful little family life he so graciously extended for the past 20 years is an understatement. So grateful for the times we had....cheers to my dear friend Don. With love forever Jamie
