ISADORE CASSUTO Obituary

CASSUTO--Isadore,

of Spencertown, NY (June 10, 1924 - December 21, 2016). Ike Cassuto grew up in the Bronx. He graduated from James Monroe High School and entered CCNY before enlisting in the Air Corps in 1943. A navigator of B-17 bombers in the European theater during WWII, Ike was shot down once but completed his tour in 1945. He didn't talk a lot about the war, but his service remained a source of quiet pride. He had a long career in private practice as a tax attorney and trusts and estates lawyer in New York City and Albany. Deeply politically engaged, Ike's first presidential vote was for Henry Wallace, his last for Hillary Clinton. Both personally and as trustee of the Sidney and Beatrice Albert Foundation, he promoted such causes as civil rights, environmentalism, reproductive freedom, and the arts. Ike shared his world and his life with his wife Tobby. Married for 61 years, they raised two sons, Lenny and David. They survive him, as do his daughters-in-law, Debra and Elizabeth, and grandchildren, Jesse and KC. Services will be conducted on Friday, December 23rd at The Chatham Synagogue at 11am. Condolences may be conveyed at frenchblasl.com.

I was very sorry to learn of the recent passing of my cousin IKe. I spent many hours of my early life visiting my aunt Sol's home and remember Ike, Esther and Jerry. May you have no more sorrow.Betty Cassorla Meisler
