GREENSBORO Dr. Jerry Cassuto, age 86, died peacefully on January 9, 2018, at the Well-spring Retirement Community in Greensboro, North Carolina. His devoted wife of 50 years, Ingrid Kurz Cassuto, was by his side. He was born in New York City on November 30, 1931, to Louis Cassuto and Celia (Nahmias) Cassuto. He graduated City College of New York in 1952 and received his medical degree from the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center in 1956. He interned at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Jacobi Medical Center and then served in the U.S. Navy in Japan from 1957 to 1958. He completed his residency in 1961 at the University of Rochester, specializing in occupational medicine. Dr. Cassuto spent the bulk of his career at AT&T and affiliates, rising to become general medical director of Western Electric and then of AT&T. He was active in the field of industrial and occupational medicine, and, among other things, served as president of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine in 1980. He enjoyed playing tennis and bridge, doing crossword puzzles and traveling, and was an avid sports fan. He is survived by his wife; his sister, Esther Edelheit (Harry); sister-in-law, Tobby Cassuto; brother-in-law, Roman Kurz; nieces Susan Edelheit (Harold Freilich) and Nicole Capelus (Paul); nephews Leonard Cassuto (Debra Osofsky), David Cassuto (Elizabeth Downes), and Michael Kurz; and six grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
