JAMES GRANT

GRANT--James M., MD, died on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at the age of 97. His optimism and love of life lifted all who knew him. He will be greatly missed. A descendent of Ulysses S. Grant, he was raised in Scarsdale, New York, spent his childhood summers in Ogunquit, Maine, and his retirement years in Windham, Vermont. He graduated from the Pomfret School in Connecticut, and then entered Columbia University as a participant in the United States Naval V-12 Unit. He received his undergraduate degree from Columbia College, his MD from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, and then completed both his internship and residency in internal medicine at Yale University, where for many years he was an Assistant Clinical Professor. He later went on to become a prominent Connecticut nephrologist, co- founding a clinical practice as well as a center for hemodialysis, both of which continue to this day. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Paula DiMeo Grant, his three children, Wendy Grant Haskell (Marshal Mandelkern), David Marshall Grant (Karl Reischerl), and Thomas Hall Grant (Tracy Salonites Grant), by his six grandchildren, and his two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Judith Gurney. Services will be held on September 7, 2022 at 11:00am, at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Southport, Connecticut.
