JOHN HUMPSTONE Obituary
of Vero Beach, Florida, formerly of Locust Valley, NY, died on September 30, 2017 at the age of 89. Affectionately known as Harvey, he was born in Brooklyn, NY, and educated at The Buckley School, Gilman, and Williams College. Harvey worked for over two decades at Bowne & Co., including 11 years as General Manager of its subsidiary, Legal Systems. Harvey was predeceased by his loving wife of 45 years, Jane Armstrong Humpstone, and by his son, John H. Humpstone, III. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Kiernan Humpstone, two daughters, Katherine of New York and Jane of Washington, DC, and by his brother, Charles of South Woodstock, VT. He is also survived by three stepchildren and six grandchildren. Services pending. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John's of Lattingtown or Hospice House of Vero Beach.

Harvey was my mentor, role model and the most sweetest, kind and generous man I have ever known. I loved him like a father and he loved me like a son. He hired me to take over Legal Systems upon his retirement. He believed in me so much that he took his retirement earlier than planned. Through many years we kept in close contact. I was delighted he could attend my wedding. I was always grateful to him for making my life much richer for knowing him.
Harvey was always my advocate and confident. I am blessed, proud and grateful that I was able to know him and call him friend.
He made life for those around him gentler, sweeter and delightful.
Harvey was truly one of a kind. The world is a much better place for him having graced us with his presence.
