From 1962-1967 I was his secretary at the Second (Cornell) Division, Bellevue Hospital. He was a very special gift in my life (and Peggy too). Call me your big brother he used to say....rather than a father figure! He was (is) a superb human being. I will always be grateful for his guidance and care of me right up to the more recent past. Much love to his family and all who held him dear.

Larry was a physician of the highest professional and ethical calibre. He was loved by his patients, his co-workers and colleagues. Never was an unkind word ever spoken by or about Larry. May his passing be for a blessing.

I had the privilege and honor to be guided by Dr. Scherr when I was Chief of Surgery at North Shore University Hospital at Forest Hills from 1999-2001. He was a man of unquestioned integrity whom I turned to many times over the subsequent years for always sound advice and guidance.
He was that clinical and academic leader that we all strive to become realizing of course that we will never attain his accomplishments. My prayers are with Mrs Scherr and the Rosen family.

In a speech to Hofstra University in 1971 emphasizing the responsibility of hospitals to avoid discrimination by disease, Dr. Scherr stated "hospitals must serve the total health needs of the entire community." He was a pioneer in the acceptance of addiction medicine as an essential component of comprehensive health care. A caring and gentle mentor, Dr Scherr was indeed a noble physician, a loyal colleague and a true gentleman. He shall always be remembered.

Larry, as he was called then, was chancelor of the Delata chapter of the TEP fraternity at Cornell. He was admired and respected and everyone of our fraternity brothers believed he was destined to be a success at whatever he undertook. I have only the warmest memories of those years.
My most heartfelt condolences to Peggy and the other members of the family.

Uncle Larry cared passionately, led strongly, laughed heartily, and inspired us to set the bar high. Holding Aunt Peggy, my very dear cousins Cindy and Rob, and their lovely children Sophie, Ben, Natalie, and Sabrina in my heart today. With so much love, Nancy
