Peter H. Shipman

SHIPMAN--Peter H., 74, of Naples, Florida, died May 3, 2009 at his home following a long battle with cancer. Peter was born in London, Ontario Canada on August 25, 1934, the son of Cora (Foster) and Gerald Totten Shipman. Pete was a 1956 graduate of Dartmouth College and served proudly in the United States Marine Corps. Peter's life was defined by his family loyalty, unwavering determination and generosity to all. Anyone that knew Peter was the beneficiary of his enormous heart. His passion for the financial markets, after years as a Wall Street executive, was only outweighed for his passion for his family and Dartmouth Baseball. Pete is survived by his best friend and beloved wife of 47 years Joan Chessman Shipman of Naples FL; daughter Julie Shipman of Buda, TX and her son Caleb (11); son Jim Shipman of Salt Lake City, UT, his wife Julie and their three sons Peter (17), Hank (14) and Jack (10); son Jerry Shipman of New York, NY; and several nieces and nephews. The Shipman family will hold a Celebration of Peter's Life Thursday, May 7 at 3pm at the Club at Pelican Bay, 707 Gulf Park Drive, Naples, FL. Peter's family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to: "Friends of Dartmouth Baseball" sent to Bob Whalen, Baseball Office, Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH 03755.
