I only knew Bob for about the last 15 years of his life. We attended many concerts and shows together and also enjoyed many dinners before and after. I always marveled at how busy Bob was in his 80´s! Traveling back and forth from Europe, taking wonderful vacations, and still enjoying so much of what New York has to offer culturally. When I think of Bob, I am inspired to soak up everything I possibly can that life has to offer. Because that´s exactly what he did. Bob carried an index card in his suit pocket and was constantly pulling it out to write down things he wanted to remember - a play we were talking about that he hadn´t seen but wanted to put on his list so he would remember to see it, a concert, exhibit, etc. Often he would text me a day or two later to ask what it was again because he couldn´t quite read his writing. And we would joke about him having a "doctor´s" handwriting!
When I lost my husband to a quick and aggressive brain tumor this past spring, Bob was so caring and kept checking throughout the following weeks to ask me to send pictures of my work in the garden (as he was also tired of being cooped up from COVID, I´m sure!). I wish I had told him how helpful it was to me to stay busy in the garden so that I could show him progress. It is part of what helped me in the beginning stages of a very rough time. That was Bob. Always enjoying life and learning, and always there for people. Thank you, Bob. I´ll miss you, my friend.

Dr. Silver was one of my teachers at Lenox Hill Hospital. He excelled at teaching, was an "old school" physician and true gentleman. In more recent years, I encountered him at Carnegie Hall, enjoying classical music. My sincere condolences.
