Dear Deborah, Jonathan, Adam and all your kin,
You have my sincerest condolences on the passing of your mother. Though I never met her, I have heard many stories about and comments by your mother over the years, and was always amazed by her acumen and eagerness to help others. She certainly set a powerful example.
I too recently lost my mother and last parent. This is hard. Thankfully, I- and it seems you- got wonderful guidance from our parents that can direct us through loss, fulfillment and happiness.

As co-chair of the Visiting Committee to the Musical Instruments Department at the Metropolitan Museum, I add my sympathy to those messages already sent to the Rose Family on the passing of their incomparable Sandy. Fred was an invaluable mentor to me and Sandy ably followed in his footsteps. She was always current on our work to strengthen the Musical Instruments Department which Fred had so importantly endowed. She joined our Friends Group, the Amati, so that she could consistently be part of our work, attending dinners and meeting regularly and contributing all manner of gifts and suggestions. Her always engaged and smiling face is much missed. She will not be forgotten.

Dear Rose Family,
We were heartbroken to learn that you had lost Sandy. She was a very special member of your family, and we enjoyed the times we spent with her so very much. She was a truly exceptional person, and we had great admiration for all she has done for public school education by founding the Reading Reform Foundation and ensuring its survival. Sandy had a delightful sense of humor, and her friendships meant a great deal to her. She and Fred will always hold a special place in our hearts. We will truly miss her and think of her often. We send our deepest sympathy to you all and hope that your wonderful memories will provide great comfort as time passes.

When I heard that my dear friend Sandy had passed away there was a sense of disbelief and shock. Strangely at that moment I was in her garden and about to start Tennis and it was as if I was talking to her when the news broke. I have known Sandy for 17 years and I have come to love and respect her as a friend. Her grace and friendship touched me deeply. She threw open her heart and home and especially her Tennis court to me and I will never forget the many hours of sporting pleasure that I have had there. I spent many a July 4 with her in her home and as we sat and talked looking at the sky it always felt that I had known her for many years, perhaps even from my past birth, how else could t here be such a strong bond between us. I said that Sandy had passed away, but yet I was wrong. She will always live with me and I know that every time I need a hand of friendship she will be there for me.

I wish to express my profound sympathy at the death of my long time colleague and friend, Sandy Rose. At our spring trustee meeting at The New York Public Library, I was struck once again by her forthrightness, intelligence, commitment, affection, and generosity to the institutions that mattered to her. She has left a significant legacy in the fields of education and literacy, particularly with the creation of Reading Reform Foundation of New York. Her love of her children and family and pride in their accomplishments were always palpable. Sandy was a special woman and made a difference. I shall miss her and send my condolences to her loved ones at her loss.

Dear Rose family,
Sandy's cheerful booming voice saying, "Jackie, how are you?" will always be ringing in my heart when I think of her. Thank you for sharing her with us. As I reflect on the precious memories working with her for only seventeen years, I must smile at the compassion and determination she showed for the education of teaching reading to inner-city children. It was a joy to share that with her. May good thoughts bring you comfort as you remember her. I am sad and may God blessed you as you press ahead through your grief.

A definition of true generosity:
Children and adults,
Students and teachers,
Friends and colleagues
Were inspired by her encouraging and facilitating confidence in them.
One by one, inspired by her energy,
Each rose to her expectation..
And became everlastingly grateful.
