SHARON GRANETZ Obituary

GRANETZ--Sharon, of Bridgewater, died on April 13 at the age of 92. She was born on April 26, 1929 in New Brunswick, NJ. She was the only child of Morris Benner and Bella Rein Benner. She attended New Brunswick public schools, graduating from New Brunswick High School in 1946. She graduated from Douglass College in 1950, majoring in English with a minor in French. She was certified to teach elementary school, which she did for six years in Red Bank and later Somerville. In 1951, she married Sidney Granetz, whom she had met when he was at Rutgers and she was in high school. After Sidney, a lieutenant in the Army, returned from Korea, they moved to Bridgewater, where they raised four children. Sharon returned to graduate school at Seton Hall received a Master's Degree in Education in 1975 and was certified as a Learning Consultant. She earned her Doctoral Degree in Education from Rutgers in 1984. She worked for more than 30 years in the Somerville Public Schools as a member of its Child Study Team, specializing in the testing and diagnosis of children with dyslexia. She retired in 2009, at the age of 79, but continued as a volunteer tutor. She was a founding member of Temple Sholom, serving as Chair of its Education Committee, as a Board Trustee, as a member of its Burial Society and as a volunteer. She was also a member of the Raritan Valley Country Club. She was predeceased by her daughter Elyse. She is survived by her husband Sid, to whom she was married for 71 years, and by her sons Robert, David and Marc (Kris); her grandchildren Brian (Courtney Rung), Rachel (Lee Farnsworth), Sarah (Matthew Thompson), Hailey (Jared Janik), Matthew, Morgan and Ethan. In July 2021, she met her great-grand- daughter Emma at Long Beach Island, a place of cherished family memories. Funeral services will be 2pm Thursday at Temple Sholom, 595 N. Bridge Street, Bridgewater. Interment will follow at Temple Sholom Cemetery, Chimney Rock Road, Bridgewater. Memorial contributions can be made to Temple Sholom.
