Alan Granetz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bruce C. Van Arsdale Funeral Home on Dec. 17, 2025.
Alan B. Granetz, 81, passed away on December 15, 2025, with his family by his side.
Alan was born in Somerville, New Jersey, to the late Bertha and Reuben Granetz. He grew up in Raritan and settled in Bridgewater in 1972, where he and his wife, Arlene, built their life together.
He graduated from Pennington Preparatory School and went on to earn both his Bachelor of Science and Masters degrees in Business from American University in Washington, D.C.
Alan spent more than 65 years in the furniture industry. He joined the family business, Granetz Furniture, founded by his father, and worked alongside his two brothers throughout his career. He also served as Director of the Greater Metropolitan Furniture Association of New Jersey and New York.
Alan was a lifelong member of Anshe Chesed Synagogue in Somerville and Temple Sholom in Bridgewater. Golf was one of the great joys of his life. He loved walking the course with friends, teaching the game to his son, and sharing that same passion with his grandchildren. At home, he was usually in his workshop, building, fixing, and creating memories for the family.
He is predeceased by his brothers and their wives, Lester and Adele Granetz and Sidney and Sharon Granetz.
He is survived by his loving wife and partner of 56 years, Arlene Fertig Granetz; his children, Meredith (Jason) Salamon, Michael (Joy) Granetz, and Emily (Gary) Weinfeld. He treasured every moment with his seven grandchildren: Abigail Salamon Ohayon (Chaim) and Zach Salamon (Ava), Nathan and Juliet Granetz, and twins Everett, Hazel and brother, Cole Weinfeld.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. this Thursday at Temple Sholom, 594 N. Bridge Street, Bridgewater. Interment will follow at Temple Sholom Cemetery in Bridgewater. Arrangements are under the care of Bruce C. Van Arsdale Funeral Home in Somerville.
