Susan Granetz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Goldman Funeral Chapel - Malden on Nov. 4, 2022.
Susan L. Granetz, 63, of Amherst, formerly of Northampton and Lawrence, Entered Eternal Rest on October 27, 2022 after a long battle with the effects of a stroke she had suffered at age 37.
Susan was a graduate of Lawrence High School, then UMASS Amherst, where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree. After working awhile in social services in the Amherst and Northampton communities, she returned to academics and training and earned a MSW Degree from the University of Michigan. She returned to Amherst to continue with her work in the community she loved.
Susan was the daughter of the late Joseph D. Granetz and Sylvia (Abrams) Granetz of Lawrence. She was the sister of Barbara Granetz (husband, Paul W. Koval) and the late Richard A. Granetz, of Lawrence, Boston, and Anchorage, Alaska. She had a first cousin who lived close to NYC, Carol Booth Holstein (husband Michael Holstein). Carol & Michael's son, Eric, was her NYC Great nephew. All the "cousins" ' parents kept Susan in the loop with pictures, anecdotes, and photos showing Great niece + nephews. She was a proud Aunt of her Koval nieces, Jenny Balas (husband, Justin Balas), and Kate Hughes (husband, Elden Hughes) and her Nephew, Danny Koval (wife, Victoria).
Susan received much joy from her Great niece, Eleanor Hughes 10, Great nephews, Nolan Richie Hughes,13, and Lucas Hughes,8, who live in Alaska. She also experienced much joy from her older Great nephews in California, Jackson Balas,15, and his brother Samuel Richard Balas, 13.
She always had a big clan cheering for her. She enjoyed making trips to NYC, Alaska and CA and Eugene, OR to attend Family Functions, Special events and gatherings of all kinds! She loved water of all types: swimming in the oceans, lakes, ponds, puddles boating, camping, bike riding, being outdoors, campfires on the shores of lakes or ponds or in back yards.
Her cajoling personality put smiles on the faces of her family and friends. She was always up for an adventure. She also loved her cat, Sunny, who was her indoor companion for many years.
The Family asks for no flowers please, but donations to Sea Turtle habitat Preservation efforts are suggested. She always hoped to get her young family members involved with Sea Turtles.
Susan will be missed by many people. Hopefully, people and children will remember a good Susan memory and smile a big smile.
Susan's family thanks the many many kindnesses shown to Susan over the years she spent in Western, Mass.
