STEPHEN MANDEL Obituary

MANDEL--Stephen D.,

passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 18, 2018. Born February 25, 1938 in Chicago, Steve graduated from the Lawrenceville School and from Rollins College before moving to New York City. The majority of Steve's career was spent as a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch, assisting many grateful clients with planning, saving and investing for the future. Steve's passions ranged from travel, including summers on Cape Cod, to fine food and music. Steve was also passionate about sports. He was a tennis enthusiast and played at a high level through college and beyond. Steve also greatly enjoyed camaraderie on the golf course. A longtime supporter of the Giants and Jets, he was most committed to the New York Rangers as a season ticket holder for 55 years. Steve was one-of-a-kind. He will be remembered for his magnificent blue eyes, generosity, sense of humor and dedication to family and friends. Steve was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Katie. Steve is survived by his son, Mark; daughter-in-law, Michele; daughter, Melissa Beaman; and son-in-law, John Beaman; and six wonderful grandsons. In lieu of flowers, donations in Steve's memory can be made to Ice Hockey in Harlem, 127 W. 127th St, Suite 415, NYC 10027 or the MS Research Center at www.Tischms.org/donate

Steve and I became friends at Rollins in 1956 and stayed friends in all the ensuing years. He was the epitome of a genuinely good man. Of course, I recall his enthusiasm for sports , both as a player and as a spectator. But there was far more to him than that. What has always stood out in my memories of Steve is that he was a genuinely good person. I never heard him speak disparingly about a person. He was a gentle human being in all definitions of that phrase. I can only guess at the void left to his family due to his passing.

I met Steve and became a friend of his from his earliest days at Rollins and remained a friend from that time on. We shared attending several athletic events together and many dinners. He was a gentle soul with a wonderful disposition. I will miss him.

Dear Family of Steve,

I knew Steve first as my broker for 25 years and later as a friend. Whenever we met he would talk about his family and the Rangers (usually in that order). He was a good friend, fine man, great broker and a fine human being. Our condolences.

It was always a joy to walk into any Merrill Lynch event and see Steve. His kindness and lust for life were infectious. My condolences to the family for the loss of a very special man.

will always remember that great smile and warm outgoing personality. After our discussions on the state of new york sports especially his beloved Rangers , he would always leave my office with a wink and a hug man to man. He will surely be missed.
