Tom was a mentor to me as a brand-new attender of 15th Street Friends Meeting in the early 90s. He encouraged me to join the peace committee, where we organized peace vigils and a seminar for conscientious objections during the first Gulf War. He always maintained a kind and gentle presence. To this day, I often remember how he preferred his four-day work week to be from Tuesday to Friday, rather than Monday to Thursday, because people are more cheerful on Friday! I will miss him.

Tom Orr was a Friend to me and a friend to our family. Tom welcomed me to 15th Street, and to Quaker practices. He sustained bible study. He mentored the Peace Committee and initiated the Bosnian Student Project, obtaining the sponsorship and structure needed to make it work. He made a difference by being kind and true.
