Elizabeth Hogan Obituary

Elizabeth "Betty" Whitaker Hogan

August 20, 1926 - August 18, 2022

Elizabeth "Betty" Whitaker Hogan, formerly of Dothan, AL, passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on Thursday, August 18, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones at Bethany House in Auburn, AL. She was born in Sarasota, FL, on August 20, 1926 and grew up in Dundee, AL on a family farm.

Betty was employed at Fort Rucker in Dale County, AL as a helicopter parts specialist for over 55 years. She loved her career and was fondly remembered. Betty was usually "going" somewhere and never stayed idle very long. Betty also loved her pets Hogan, Penny, Princess and Zoey and had the magic touch with all animals that she came in contact with, especially ones she adopted.

She was a devoted daughter, mother and grandmother and retired at the end of her life to live with her daughter and son-in-law in Salem, AL. She enjoyed family gatherings and sharing special facts about Archaeology, Speleology and Aeronautics. Crossword puzzles, reading and absorbing new facts were also her favorite pastimes.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Vicki Hogan Hayes (John) of Salem, AL and her grandchildren Susan Hayes Mabry (Luke) of Aiken, SC, Jenny Hogan Watson (Charles) of Mobile, AL and William Daks Hogan (Suzie) of Dothan, AL. Betty is also survived by her grandchildren, Taylor Mabry of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Luke Mabry Jr. of Clemson, SC, and Marley, Sophie, Jillian and Will Hogan Jr. of Dothan, AL. Betty is preceded in death by her grandmother Myrtis Jones Peacock, and her mother, Mabel Peacock Whitaker, and her son, William "Bill" Kermit Hogan.

My sympathy to all of the family. I remember Betty from High School. She was a lovely lady. I remember her as a friend of my Sister.

I first met Betty when they hired me at Fort Rucker as an aircraft mechanic. I will always remember her with fond memories. She was so much fun to be around. We share the same birthday. So Happy Birthday in heaven today Betty. R.I. p.
