Joe Davis Memoriam

Joe Davis was born June 28, 1953 in Coolidge, Texas and passed away Saturday, September 8, 2012. He was the fifth child of Ida Mae and Henry Davis, Jr.

Joe accepted Christ at an early age, and grew up in the St Matthews Baptist Church. Joe participated in scouting and was a member of Woodson Boys Clubs where he learned about team sports, leadership and responsibility! During the summers, everyone knew that Joe would be at Woodson Park as the lifeguard and swim instructor for the community. His summers were filled with swimming and playing baseball with El Paso Products at Southside Park.

He graduated from Ector High School in l972, where he was a proud "Ector Eagle". Joe attended college at Arizona Western University and Sul Ross University on a basketball scholarship. Joe was a gifted athlete – surprising everyone by being a barefoot kicker in junior high and high school games. Although Joe enjoyed many sports, he was best known as a basketball standout. He was a high school "All-American" player on the l972 State Basketball Championship team. Joe loved attending games and sports events of all kinds!

Joe was most recently employed by Tripple S Safety, where he was a safety inspector. Prior to that he held various oil field jobs after closing "The NFL Man Sport's and Memorabilia Store" in downtown Odessa. The "NFL Man Sport Store" was known to be the place to get all of your sport's memorabilia and have a candid discussion on the latest sports statistics.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; Ida Mae and Henry Davis and his sister Helen Youngblood Wilson.

He is survived by wife, Michelle; daughter Mellonee Morris and husband Jeff of Yuma, Arizona; son Branson of Odessa; Granddaughter Lezlie of Yuma, Arizona. Others include his brothers Tracy Youngblood , wife Ada of Orange,Texas; Carl Youngblood of Dallas, Texas and sisters Mattie Mellonee Youngblood and Yvonne Davis both of DeSoto, Texas; Brother in-law Jerry Wilson (Mary), Grand Prairie, Texas; and his Aunt Naomi Spivey of Dallas, Texas.

Joe left a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends who loved him dearly.

The Youngblood/Davis family will hold a Memorial Service to Celebrate the Life of their brother,
