BAIRD Tony Allan Myers left this world for his Heavenly home on August 14, 2015, in his own home, on his own terms, wrapped in the loving embrace of his wife and youngest daughter.
He was a man known for his stubborn determination, and rarely let anything keep him down for long.
He was born in Odessa, Texas, on December 27, 1954, to Nellie Emma Murray Myers and Jack Lavell Myers.
Tony graduated from Permian High School in 1973, but not before earning a bit of a reputation for trouble. However, by his own account, he never started a fight, but he never backed down from one either, and he had a knack for telling people exactly what he thought of them, which seldom ended well for him.
While at Permian, he enjoyed choir and sports and received awards and leadership positions in both. He was also pleased to be the first president of the first Saddleman's Club at Permian High.
As a young man, Tony loved horses, fast cars, dancing, playing guitar, singing and camping in the mountains. He was a rascal with a quick, but dry wit and a million watt grin. He fell in love with Brenda Robinson in June of 1975, and by the end of June 1976, they were married.
He became a Christian in 1988, and his faith only grew stronger through the years. He was an active member at University Park Baptist Church in Odessa starting in 2006, and gained friends who became family. He enjoyed his time with the men's group at UPBC more than any other social events his family can recall.
Tony loved mischief. From replacing toilet paper rolls with a few sheets of toilet paper wrapped around a fishing spool at the lake with his sister and cousins, or putting someone's car up on blocks while they were distracted, to sneaking into a mall with a giggling child, mission impossible style, to buy the love of his life a special Christmas present while she worked the store directly across from the targeted gift, and then adding a new, more complex layer of wrapping to it every time he got irritated between the purchase and Christmas morning. He was occasionally a grizzly by outer appearance, but a teddy bear with a heart of gold where it counted.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Brenda Robinson Myers, of Baird, Texas; Daughter: Tammy McFarland-Scerbo and husband Bill Scerbo, of Boca Raton, Florida; Daughter: Melissa Myers Moon and husband SGT Darrell Moon, of Clyde, TX; Granddaughter: Samantha; Grandsons: Auron, Xander, William, Drayden and John; Sister: Janet Myers Talley; Half sister: Jade Acosta; many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at University Park Baptist Church, 8650 N. Golder, Odessa, TX 79763 at 2:00 in the afternoon.
