Ada Lonick Obituary

Ada "Mom" "Grandma Ada" Roncadini Lonick, 91, of Avella, passed away at 1 a.m. Monday, July 3, 2017, in Southmont of Presbyterian SeniorCare, Washington, with her loving family by her side.
She was born December 22, 1925, in Avella, a daughter of the late John and Mary Martin Roncadini.
Mrs. Lonick was valedictorian of the 1943 graduating class at Avella High School.
During World War II, she was trained in the engineering department at the ship yard in Ambridge.
While raising her family, Mrs. Lonick worked as a secretary for five years for Avella Area School District and as a receptionist for Dr. McCarroll, until she began working as a social worker for the Department of Public Welfare for 35 years, retiring in 1990.
She was a member of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, Avella, where she was also a member of Christian Mothers, American Legion Bert C. Sider Post 643 Ladies Auxiliary, Avella, and Avella Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary for more than 75 years.
Mrs. Lonick was a lifelong resident of Avella. She enjoyed doing puzzles, cooking, baking and spending time with her cat, K.C. She loved to be with her family, especially playing with her great-grandchildren.
She loved her church and community. She volunteered a great deal for the area, including at the polling station in Independence Township, delivering Meals on Wheels for 20 years and assisting with the registration of young men in the area for selective service during the draft for World War II.
On June 30, 1947, she married Charles A. Lonick, who died September 29, 1952.
Surviving are two daughters, Valarie (Ray) Lusebrink of Irwin and Shelley (Jim) Davis of Clearwater, Fla.; a son, Randy (Debi) Lonick of Burgettstown; six grandchildren, Carrie and Luke, Amanda and Grady, Natalie, Randi, Terri and Helge and Ray; five great-grandchildren, Lucy, Cecilia, Max, Anna and Felix; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to her husband and parents, are two brothers, Richard Roncadini and her twin brother, John Roncadini, and two sisters, Olympia Lazzaro and Angela Rogo.
Mrs. Lonick was the last of her immediate family.
Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Jerome A. Stefkovich Funeral Home Inc., 18 Campbell Street, Avella, PA 15312. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 7, in St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, 97 Highland Avenue, Avella, with the Rev. Robert M. Staszewski officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Avella.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Avella Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box G, Avella, or St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, Avella.
