Carole Ballentyne Garvin

Carole Ballentyne Garvin, of Monongahela, died Wednesday, October 9, 2024, in the Residence at Hilltop, Monongahela. She was born September 12, 1937, a daughter of the late Robert and Evelyn Kirby Ballentyne. She was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church of Monongahela. Carole graduated from Monongahela High School with the Class of 1955, where she met her husband, Horace. Carole is survived by her three daughters, Terri Lu Garvin Graney of Monongahela, Vicki Lynn Garvin Marchewka of Canonsburg, and Susan Lee Garvin Toth of Monongahela; three sons-in-law, Thomas Graney, Sr., Harry Marchewka, Sr. and Michael Toth, Jr.; nine grandchildren, whom she truly loved: Harry (Kristan) Marchewka, Jr. of Eighty Four; Heather (Michael) Mellinger of St. Petersburg, Fla.; Kelli (Matthew) Schmeltz of Canonsburg; Thomas (Kristen) Graney of North Huntingdon; Katie (Aaron) Carr of Canonsburg; Kristopher (Maria) Marchewka of Bethel Park; Michael Toth, III of Monongahela; David (Andrea) Marchewka of South Park; and Jeffrey (Rylee Miller) Toth of Monongahela. Carole adored her 19 great-grandchildren: Julia, James, Carolyn and Victoria Mellinger; Tyler, Bryan and Elizabeth Schmeltz; Natalie and Valerie Carr; Alexander and Aubrey Graney; Harry and Alexis Marchewka; Michael Toth, IV; Rita and Rory Marchewka; William and Evelyn Marchewka; and Carter Toth. Carole is also survived by two brothers-in-law, Howard Dunmire, Sr. of Monongahela, and James (Anita) Garvin of Charleston, W.Va.; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Lopresti of New Eagle, and Linda (Sam) Lytle of Finleyville; cousins, Sherie (Shelby) Miller Cash of Washington, Kenny (Bonnie) Kirby of Monongahela, and Bob (Paulette) Kirby of Struthers, Ohio; along with many nieces and nephews, family members, and friends. In addition to her parents, Carole was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Horace F. "Punk" Garvin; sister, Colleen (Ballentyne) Dunmire; mother- in-law and father-in-law, Horace and Mildred Barton Garvin; brothers- in-law, the Rev. Dr. John Garvin, Dr. James Lopresti, and WillIam Kohout; and sisters- in-law, Audrey Garvin and Clara Kohout. Carole and her family are very grateful to the staff at the Residence at Hilltop for their loving care. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, October 12, and from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, October 13, in Frye Funeral Home Inc., 427 W. Main Street, Monongahela. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, October 14, in the First Baptist Church, 601 W. Main Street, Monongahela, with Pastor Kenneth Kirby officiating.
