Dolores Hess Obituary

Dolores J. Hess, 84 of Beallsville, passed away Monday, July 22, 2024 in Presbyterian SeniorCare Woodside Place, Washington, PA. She was born July 11, 1940 in Charleroi, a daughter of the late George and Sarah Tatalavich Vranges. Dolores was a 1958 graduate of Rostraver High School and earned a bachelor's and master's degree in education, specializing in reading, from the former California State College. She was employed in the Bethlehem Center School District elementary and middle schools as a reading specialist. Mrs. Hess was a woman of many talents and continually active in her community. She was a member of the Beallsville United Methodist Church serving as both a Sunday school and Vacation Bible school teacher as well as a member of the choir. She was a PSEA, AAUW, National Pike Steam, Gas & Horse Association and Washington Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary member . She served on the board of the Beallsville Cemetery Association and former Beallsville Civic Association. When she was not teaching or serving her local community, Dolores could be found raising sheep, sewing, baking, canning, reading, and playing piano. She loved spending time on the family farm with her children and grandchildren. One achievement she was extremely proud of was the poetry she had published. On July 29, 1961 she married Clarence K. Hess. They celebrated 52 years of marriage before his death August 29, 2013. Surviving are four children, Susan Nickler (Mark), Todd Hess, Scott Hess (Kathy) all of Beallsville, and Dianne Dish (Steve) of Moon Twp., seven grandchildren, Jacob, Andrew, Jennie, Luke, Hannah, Sarah and Levi; a niece Sarah Deitch; two nephews, Craig and Curt Carlson; her beloved dogs Benjy and Sadie. Deceased in addition to her parents and husband is a sister, Mildred "Midge" Deitch. The family extends its heartfelt thanks to all staff of Woodside Place and Gateway Hospice.
