Doris Shaffer Obituary

Doris "Dee" Shaffer, of Houston, passed away, peacefully, Friday, March 29, 2024, in her home. She was born in Houston, a daughter of the late Charles and Galena Davis Shaffer. Dee was a graduate of Chartiers High School, attended Eastern Nazarene College in Boston, and went to Penn Commercial for business. Miss Shaffer had worked at the former Western Center in the medical department. She was a member of the Washington Alliance Church and was a Meals on Wheels volunteer for 14 years. Dee excelled in creative writing, was a world traveler, enjoyed playing the organ, Christian and country music, and loved Gunsmoke. Surviving are two brothers, William Shaffer, with whom she made her home, and James Shaffer (Karen) of Houston; a nephew, James Shaffer Jr.; and a niece, Julie Shriver (Jeff). Friends will be received from 1 to 4 p.m., the time of service, Tuesday, April 2, in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342. Interment in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray will be private.
