Ruth Ann Burke

7/1/1925-5/8/2024 Ruth Ann Burke passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2024. She was born in 1925 in Canonsburg, a daughter of William Joseph and Viola Bell Burke. After graduating from Peters Township High School, Ruth went on to get her teaching degree from the University of Pittsburgh. She taught for five years in Riverside, Calif. before returning to the University of Pittsburgh to get her master's degree. After 5 years teaching at Pitt, she accepted a teaching position with Peters Township and remained there for 28 years until retirement. She was instrumental in promoting girls' sports at the high school level in Western Pennsylvania. She relished traveling both here and abroad and excelled in photography. Ruth was an avid golfer and enjoyed sharing tips with fellow golfers. She retired from golfing at the age of 92. Ruth was devoted to her church - Center Presbyterian - and she played many roles in the church over the years - elder, deacon, and treasurer of the Cemetery Association. Her faith was evident by her honesty, humility, and generosity. She leaves many friends and family to cherish her loving ways. Family members include, Peggy Tilton (Dennis), Nancy Newman (Doug), and Judy Burke (Jim); along with a host of grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Ruth Ann was predeceased by her beloved sister, Peg; brother, Bill; and nephews, Jim and John Burke. The family wishes to thank Compassionate Ministries for their excellent care and compassion, as well as friends and family who have reached out to support Ruth Ann. Friends and family are welcome from 12 noon until 1 p.m., the time of a funeral service, Saturday, May 18, in Center Presbyterian Church, 255 Center Church Road, McMurray, PA 15317.
