Evangelina Turegeno Obituary

Evangelina (Eva) Tejadilla Turegano born in Mexico City on December 13, 1920 died in her sleep on March 18, 2017. She was 96 years and 3 months young. Having been a resident of San Antonio, Texas for 58 years and Kingwood, Texas for 13 years, she passed away in her nursing home, Hill Country Care in Dripping Springs, Texas.

Evangelina Tejadilla was the fifth child of Pedro Tejadilla and Juana Suarez in a family with 7 siblings. With the exception of two sisters, one at birth and the other in a car accident, all her remaining siblings lived beyond the age of 80. Evangelina was the last survivor.

Eva, as she liked to be called, was married twice during her life: 8 years to German Balanzategui and 59 years to Fernando Turegano. She gave the gift of life to 3 sons: Marco Antonio (d.1961), Juan German, and Fernando (II). In turn the brothers, passed the gift of life to 7 grand children, 17 great-grand children, and 15 great-great-grand children.

Eva immigrated to the USA with her husband, Fernando Turegano, a US citizen, in 1945. Her stay was short, because her husband went to work for the US Air Force in Alaska, while she returned to Mexico, City. Five years later when the family became whole, they moved to Linden, N. J. for a two-year stint. When Fernando found work as a civil servant, they returned to San Antonio where they lived together most of their remaining lives.

In 1970 she became a Naturalized US Citizen which was a crowning moment in her life. Then in 1990 at the age of 69, she decided to start an antique business. She knew little about running a business, but through various mentors she proceeded forward and was able to make profit and have continuity for over 13 years. She became known and was often sought by professional antique dealers.

In 1995, on her 50th anniversary she remarried her husband, Fernando, in a very quiet, unassuming wedding in the Roman Catholic Church. She was very proud of this moment.

Eva was an avid reader and was very creative in embroidery sewing. Most of her art was sold through her antique business.

She will be missed by her sons and offspring and her friends.
