Waldon Landry Obituary
Waldon J Landry, Born in 1938 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and died peacefully among family on July 6, 2025 at the age of 86. Waldon married his High School sweetheart Gaynell Marie Gauthier and was happily dedicated to her for 66 years. He graduated from Redemptorist Highschool in Baton Rouge and was 1st Chair in Band for Trumpet and wanted you to know that first chair means you're the best "no kidding!" He loved jazz and the Four Freshmen and enjoyed jam sessions with various friends. Weekend nights, you could find him drag racing his legendary pale green '50 Ford Club Coupe. He was a loyal dedicated man to his Family, Faith, and Friends and he never met a stranger. He was passionate about life and his expectations of it for himself and others and always competed with himself to be the very best he could be in all things.
A graduate of Louisiana State University, Waldon served his entire career for 30 years at Exxon Co USA as a Chemical Engineer in Marketing Specialty Services. He was extremely professional but not so much that he wouldn't pause a meeting to wave as your car passed the Exxon building. He will be affectionately remembered for his iconic whistle that could summon kids home from playing in the neighborhood or applaud grandchildren for a job well done at dance recitals, plays, sporting events and more. His meticulously manicured yard was his hobby and his joy especially his Fashion Azaleas. His grandchildren lovingly remember him as "Pops" continuously bringing donut holes, letting them speak to the ceramic bunnies in the yard so they could find where the Easter Eggs were hidden, pealing the skin off of slices of apple, riding in his John Deer Tractor Trailor around the yard, constantly making funny faces in life and pictures, standing in the driveway to welcome them in and waving goodbye until the car was out of site. He would always joke with them telling them stories saying: "Once upon a time, The End"! His thick Cajun accent will be missed especially his affectionate "Sha Ba Bay." He was a dedicated Catholic his entire life having helped build two churches in Kingwood, TX, served as a member of the original Parish Council, and served as an usher at the original St. Martha Catholic Church.
He lived a full life and was able to see his 3 children and 6 grandchildren graduate from college.
He will be so greatly missed and is survived by his wife Gaynell Landry, his children and son in law Waldon Landry Jr., Kevin Landry, Kristen and Brian Manning, his grandchildren Mary Landry, Peyton Manning, John Landry, Paige Manning, Sarah Landry, and Parker Manning, and his siblings and brothers in law and sister in law Beryle and Richard Haley, Gayle and Willie Hardy, Mona Ponsock, and Duane and Robbie Landry.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, July 21, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Martha Catholic Church Holy Family Chapel, 4301 Woodridge Pkwy., Porter, Texas 77365. (281) 358-6637
