Leslie Ann (Gentes) Sanders, 71, a 44-year resident of Kingwood, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, July 14, 2016. She was born February 24, 1945, in Buffalo, NY, to the late George and Ethel Gentes. She grew up in Tacoma, WA, and Lewiston, NY, where she graduated from Lewiston Porter Central High School. She received her Bachelor's degree from Colorado State University in 1967, where she met her husband, Tom Sanders.
Leslie was greatly loved by her family and friends, and especially by her husband, Tom Sanders, for more than 50 years. She will be remembered by her children Darcy Sims, Kristen Emerson, Vicki Honea, Court Sanders, and Craig Sanders; her in-laws Steve Sims, BJ Emerson, Brandon Honea, and Michelle (Beeney) Sanders; and 11 grandchildren Sarah, Elliot, and Olivia Sims, Will, Beck, and Elizabeth Emerson, Logan, Landry, and Tyler Honea, and Macy and Caitlin Sanders.
Leslie was immensely generous with her time, wisdom and love. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren most. Her personality was always positive and radiant. She saw good in everyone she encountered and treasured life-long friendships. She remained active in several clubs including Kingwood Women's Club, Society of St. Stephen, her gourmet group, and her Bunco groups. She was diagnosed with ALS/Lou Gehrig's Disease at age 70, and battled courageously with the disease for almost 2 years.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 2, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Martha's Catholic Church in Kingwood. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Houston chapter of the ALS Association of Texas.
