Peggy Rome Obituary

Peggy Ann Doucet Rome, a native of southeast Louisiana and a resident of Kingwood, TX, passed away peacefully of heart failure in Humble, TX on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at age 83 with family by her side.

Peggy was born April 17, 1940 in New Orleans, LA to Clotilde Guidroz and Harris Doucet of Galliano, LA. She attended Larose-Cut Off High School Class of 1958 and graduated from Nicholls State University in Thibodeaux, LA with a BA in Education, Class of 1961. On June 16, 1962 Peggy married the love of her life, Nolan M. Rome of Golden Meadow, LA. They recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. She is the loving mother of 3 beautiful children, Angela Rome Gonzalez, Yvette Rome Estopinal (Gary) and David Earl Rome (Elany) and the doting grandmother of Claire Wade (Derek), Mallory Estopinal, Hannah Estopinal and CeCe Gonzalez. She and Nolan were residents of the New Orleans area for 27 years and have been residing in the Houston suburb of Kingwood, TX since 1989.

She held a certification in Family Ministry Formation, served as a high school catechist and was a guidance teacher and facilitator in the Archdioceses of N.O. school system for several years. Peggy was very active in her local church parish serving along with Nolan as the first couple leadership of their Catholic parish lay council involving a multitude of ministries. In addition, she and her husband served on the advisory board of the Archdiocesan Family Life Ministry. In 1982, the Catholic Archbishop of N.O. conferred on her & Nolan the Order of St. Louis for outstanding volunteer services as lay leaders.

In the mid 70's, Peggy and Nolan served as the Worldwide Marriage Encounter leadership couple representing the N.O. area throughout the U.S. After moving to the Houston area, Peggy co-founded and led the Holistic Living Network from 2002 to 2015 providing networking opportunities for those interested in all aspects of holistic living.

Peggy absolutely loved to dance, enjoyed concerts and musicals, books, yoga and Hallmark movies. She never met a stranger - always wanting to know everyone's life story. As though this was not enough, Peggy was inspired in 2005 to create a program called "Tell Me Your Soul Story." This program encouraged the formation of small, community based, sharing groups to inspire individuals to connect more deeply with others. In 2016 she published a book with the same name to capture her development experience with her 10-year Soul Story journey.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, step-father Bruce Terrebonne, and all five of her siblings, brothers Tomey and Joe Doucet, sisters Ruby Kief Cheramie, Amelia and Roseanna Doucet, all of Galliano, LA.

Peggy's family is deeply grateful for the loving care she received from doctors, nurses and support staff at N.E. Memorial Hospital in Humble, TX and from her own personal physicians, especially the care of Dr. Kim Elliott, and their staff.

A gathering to celebrate her life will likely be held in the near future in Kingwood, TX and in the New Orleans area. To send your condolences, Peggy's email address is [email protected]. National Cremation Services provided final arrangements.

Peggy and Nolan have been dear and faithful friends for over 25 years. We were privileged to have them as our neighbors for most of that time. Peggy was one of the sweetest people I have ever known. Her kindness and friendship will always be treasured. God rest you and keep you. We love you and Nolan so much.
