ALBERT BAZO Obituary

BAZO, DR. ALBERT JAMES
Dr. Albert James Bazo of Ocala, Florida passed away last Wednesday morning, May 21st 2014, in his sleep.
Albert was born September 18th 1937 in Wheeling, West Virginia. He was the youngest son of Steve and Anna Bazo, who worked in the coal mines after they emigrated from Hungary at the turn of the century. Albert graduated from Triadelphia High School in 1955 and attended West Liberty State College, graduating with a double major of Chemistry and Zoology in 1959. He then attended West Virginia University Medical School from 1959 to 1961. Albert graduated from Temple University Medical School in 1963 with a Doctor of Medicine degree. Dr. Bazo practiced Medicine for over 50 years as a Family Physician and Airman Medical Examiner. Albert proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, and for many years following in the Reserves.
He was twice married, initially to Judy and then to Joy. He was a proud father and is survived by his children Steven, Deana, John and Peter. For all those whose lives he touched and those he knew, his passing is most difficult. However, as a man who lived his life from start to finish, never compromising, and always direct, Albert's passing is just another chapter in the life of an extraordinary man. We grieve for him, but we understand that he is now flying with welcoming Angels, never to be bound to the ground again. As the sun must always set to the West, so must he fly West with the Angels. Per his instructions, no memorial service will be held. Those who wish to honor him may hold a toast to the setting Sun and re ect upon the nal journey we all must eventually take.
"Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split
and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of -
wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence.
Hovering there I've chased the shouting wind along
and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long delirious burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace,
and, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod clouds -
where never lark, or even eagle, flew;
the high untrespassed sanctity of space,
put out my hand and touched the face of God."

- "High Flight", John Gillespie (1941).

Doc, I think of you still even though so much time has passed. But you were my Doc and my friend for over 20 years. As I fly in my old plane, you told me not to buy, I smile and wish you blue side up!

I first met Dr. Bazo through my wife / Dr. Karen Dunbar. She was a longtime friend of Al, and always spoke highly of him. When I met him, I fully understood what she was talking about. He was a true gentleman and scholar. He became my new AME, and remained so for years.

We always looked forward to seeing AL's smiling face and helping hands at Sun N Fun each year. Al was fun person to hang out with, and, a true professional at what he did.

May God bless your soul Al. May you rest in peace, and in level flight.

So sorry to hear that Dr. Bazo passed away. He was a great hangar neighbor and medical examiner. He will really be missed around both Ocala and Fort Myers airports. Dr. Bazo was an extraordinary physician and friend who truly loved aviation. I first met him as President of Flying Physicians, and loved the trips to Cayman and diving with Al. As ranking doc at Sun n' Fun, he always had a smile and time for a chat. He cared for my family like they were his own. To a true gentleman and aviator -- Fly high with the angels, my friend.

I just learned of Doc's passing. I am so very shocked and saddened by this news. I loved Doc Bazo. He was my FAA med Dr for 10 years - I was so proud of our friendship, and I believe he was too.. I loved seeing him every six months, and I especially loved him because he was a "Pilot's Pilot." I will surely toast him as I pursue sunsets around the world...Here's to you Doc, the best MD a girl airline pilot ever had. I will miss you forever.

I was his neighbor and got my first aerial tour of Ocala from him. I always remember his upbeat and enthusiastic manner. Later, his son took my son and I on a memorable fishing trip. We will miss you, Albert.

I always loved it when Doc would stop by the dealership and we would just sit and talk and I will greatly miss that. He was truly what a Doctor should be, caring and always willing to help. He asked me many times to go flying with him and I never took him up, I will always regret that now. God Speed Albert, you will be greatly missed.
