JANE SHASHY Obituary

SHASHY, JANE COLEMAN
Ocala - Jane Coleman Shashy passed away peacefully on January 2, 2017, at her son's home in Ormond Beach, FL. Jane was born in Hollywood, California, on July 16, 1928, and was the only child of Leven Shreve and Marjorie Eaton Coleman. In 1944, her family moved to Fayette, Missouri, where she attended Fayette High School and was the captain of the cheerleading squad of the Fayette Falcon's football team. Fayette was also the place where she met her future husband, John Andrew Dillard. He was in Missouri for Naval training and they met in a downtown drug store and soda shop. They were married in Bay Minette, AL in 1946, and moved to Mt. Dora, Florida.
In 1947, they moved to Gainesville, Florida, while her husband attended University of Florida. While living in Gainesville, she had three children and in 1963, the family moved to Ocala, FL, where she made her home.
She served two judges in Marion County, and was known as 'Aunt Jane' at the County Courthouse. She retired in 2008, after more than 25 years as a judicial assistant. She was an active member of the Junior League in Gainesville, the Marion County Library Board and also volunteered time for the 'Fine Arts for Ocala' annual events. She was strong in her faith and was as a member of the alter guild at Grace Episcopal Church. Later, she was a vestry member of St. George Anglican Church of Ocala, and more recently she volunteered office time at Christ the King Anglican Church.
Jane was preceded in death by her husbands, John Reginald Grubbs and Edmond Thomas Shashy.
She is survived by her companion and close family friend, Dr. F. Gary Day D.V.M.; and three children and their spouses, Candace Dillard Bennett and the late Capt. Robert W. Bennett, Jr., of Pensacola, FL, Jo Anne Dillard of Ocala, FL, and John A. Dillard, Jr. and Fran Arnett Dillard, of Ormond Beach, FL; along with eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
She loved golf, sailing, water skiing and the beach. She also loved playing bridge and did so almost weekly for most of her adult life. She was a loving and caring mother, and a devout wife and was full of life. She will be missed very much by her family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Christ the King Anglican Church, 3850 W. Anthony Road, Ocala, FL, on February 11, 2017, at 4:00 pm., with a reception to follow. Donations in remembrance of Jane may be made to the Vitas Hospice Care of Daytona Beach, Florida.

Jane was my bridge buddy and always pleasant to.spend time with. We always rode together to our bridge nights and laughed at all of her funny stories she shared from work. She was a woman of faith and a blessing to all that crossed paths with her. She will be missed. She is loved. Prayers to her family. Love Jo Billings

What a great and unique personality the world has lost. Jane loved her family and talked about them at every chance. She was very proud of you all. And she loved to laugh. She found humor in even difficult situations. What a jewel. Am so sorry for your loss.
