Mary Mortier Obituary

Mortier, Mary Jane

Mary Jane Mortier, 79, Oconto Falls, died Sunday evening, November 8, 2015 at an Oconto health care facility. She was born January 15, 1936 in Green Bay to Clarence and Ella (Corrigan) Everard. At the age of 2 years old, she moved with her family to rural Oconto County and grew up on the farm and attended school, graduating from Lena High School with the class of 1954.

On September 25, 1954 she married Vernon Mortier at St. Charles Catholic Church in Lena. Following their marriage, the couple lived in the Oconto Falls area and once worked as a nurses aide for Sharpe Care. Over the years, Mary cared for 20 children from different families and was recognized with the Rural Urban Award for foster care. Mary once stated, "the biggest joy of our life has been our children". She liked to tend her flower garden, do quilting and crocheting and caring for her dogs and cats. Mary also enjoyed camping, seeing and smelling the fall colors and watching sunsets.

Survivors are her husband of 61 years, Vernon Mortier, Oconto Falls; their four children, Karen (Fred) Mayer, Glenview, IL; Michael (Julie) Mortier, Appleton; Donn (Alice) Mortier, Fond du Lac; Lynn (James) Newlun, Racine; 13 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren; three brothers, David (Mary Susan) Everard, Green Bay; Michael (Sandra) Everard, Pound; William Everard, Coleman; one sister, Angela (Jerome) Heinrich, Chilton; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother, Peter Everard.

Visitation will be held 4-8pm Friday, November 13, 2015 at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls. Visitation will continue after 9am Saturday, November 14, 2015 until the time of service. Funeral services will be held 10:30am Saturday at the funeral home with Tim Fifield officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, Spruce.

The Mortier family would like to thank Dr. Peter Curio as well as the nurses and staff of the Woodland Village Nursing Center for the care and consideration shown Mary during their time together.

Just a couple days ago, while at Dollar General, I came across a cute candy bag of "Mary Jane candies" (the picture of the little girl even resembled Mary I thought!)...I was Sweetly Reminded of Mary (& Sweet/Generous/Kindhearted Vern...both of You so similar in these qualities)....Many Thanks & Praises to God!!! God is with us to the Very End/New Beginnings!!!

Mary has come to mind to us just recently (yesterday!) while digging through a shoe box of sewing supplies that she had generously given for our daughter Lydia! (We keep Mary's beautiful photo in our sewing box with all of the colorful variety of threads she gave us!) Since her passing on to Heaven, we've come across a few of her written notes in little notebooks tucked within the sewing boxes given, where she listed 2 books about Heaven (Heaven is for Real, & another one about Heaven by David Jeremiah). These books must have been special to her heart...In both notes, she had listed names of people that (perhaps) she wanted to encourage to read the books...Sweet Remembrances of Mary & her loving heart for others & (possibly) her deep desire for others to know the LORD & Join her in Heaven someday!

We also So Appreciate Your Tender Loving Care & Loving Actions, too, Vern! What Gifts You & Mary have been to our family, our church, & our communities!! Thank you, with love & hugs! Beyer Family, Lena.

We are thankful for Mary's friendship & quilting wisdom/help/blessings. We'll especially miss Mary's unique way of asking thought-provoking questions to help us to remember "the important things". Lydia is especially so sad as she deeply misses Mary. We look forward to seeing her again in Heaven! May God bless & keep you, Vern, & Family. With love & prayers.

"Honor goes to kind & gracious women..." (Proverbs 11:16)

"When she speaks, her words are wise, & kindness is the rule for everything she says." (Proverbs 31:26)

"...and be sure of this--that I am with you always, even to the end of the world." (Matthew 28:20)

"...the important thing is...that your names are registered as citizens of heaven." (Luke 10:20)

"And all who trust Him--God's Son--to save them have eternal life..." (John 3:36)

"So keep on believing what you have been taught from the beginning. If you do, you will always be in close fellowship with both God the Father & His Son. And He Himself has promised us this: eternal life." (1 John 2:24-25)

"And now, my children, stay in happy fellowship with the Lord so that when He comes you will be sure that all is well, & will not have to be ashamed & shrink back from meeting Him." (1 John 2:28)
