Time can be as a dark cloud obscuring all that has been. So we are fortunate that there are those whose light breaks through to remind us of the good. Helen Qammar's gentle kindness is such a light, still shining so as to help me on my way.

I think often of Helen, especially when confronted by those who would benefit from a little encouragement. This was something Helen generously gave to me and I would wish to honor as I am given the opportunity to offer it to others.

Time has passed, but as it has I remember all the more vividly Helen's kindness and practical wisdom; my surprise at her openness and attention in the very first moment of encounter. But remembrance pales before the person she was and the spirit that I know continues to weave good into the world.

Dr. Helen Qammar was a gifted leader, an inspirational thinker, and a caring, generous mentor to me. As a former graduate assistant under her supervision and guidance, I will sorely miss her wisdom, beauty, kindness, creativity, and much more. So down to earth and welcoming, she always made me and others feel like genuinely valued colleagues of equal worth. A true role model and friend, Helen was a person of integrity, intelligence, and countless gifts. In sympathy and blessed gratitude, my best wishes go to her family and friends for peace, solace and cherished memories of love and joy now and in the years to come. God bless.

I would like to say to all the family that it was a pleasure to know Helen, a pleasure to talk with her and a pleasure be a guest in her Home. She was a great mom and a friend and a Sister in Islam for me. She did a lot in our community, served on our committies, gave great Islamic Halaqas on numerous occaisions, and made the best baklava I have ever tasted. May Allah grant her paradise, and His mercy to her, her son's and all of us, Ameen.

Deepest sympathy Shammus &Najjim. My mom, Fran Lawson loved your mother deeply. I moved away as you grew up, but remember your mother & Shammus as a toddler. She will always love you guys. So priviledged to have such love. Love the pics of when my girls were little, staying at my mom's playing with you boys. So cute. Take good care. Cobey Elmer
