Nick Tavernaris Obituary
Nick Tavernaris, 83, went home to be with the Lord on September 21, 2017. He was born August 15, 1934 in Charleston, W. Va. to Mike and Nina Tavernaris.
Nick was a baker by trade early in his life, following in his father's footsteps; his specialty was baklava. He retired from the Chrysler Corporation and was known as "Mr. Fix-It" in his Norton neighborhood. He was a member of Goss Memorial Church and had attended Grace Bible Church, and the Chapel in Akron. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and vacationing with his family to Canada and Florida. He was frequently out on a new adventure, traveling with his wife, and had a deep devotion and love for his family.
Nick was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul, James, and George Tavernaris; and sisters, Anna Longhitano, Elizabeth Tavernaris, and Fannie Vanhorn.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Meredith Jo; daughters, Debbie (Robert) Brigeman, and Tammy (Roger) Ambrose; sisters, Darlene Senn (Gary Coumbe), Mary Ruth (Bill) Stevenson; grandchildren, Aaron (Melinda) Murawski, Rob (Ashley) Brigeman, Beth Brigeman (Dave Messner), Ryan (Debbie) Ambrose; great-grandchildren; Alyssa, Abbey, Kaylee, Madison, Roman and one on the way.
Friends may call at Bacher Funeral Home, 3250 Greenwich Rd., Norton on Friday, September 29, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m., and one hour prior to services held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 12:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Goss Memorial Church, 2247 11th St SW, Akron, OH 44314 or Humane Society of Summit County, 7996 Darrow Rd., Twinsburg, OH 44087 in memory of Nick.

Meredith, we are so sorry for your loss. Nick was such a wonderful man and we are so honored to have known him for so many years. His smile would light up a room. Prayers to Debbie and Tammy for the loss of your father, and all of Nick's family during this difficult time, and always. We love you all, and we will miss Nick.

It has been so many years ago when I met Meredith, Debbie, Tammy, and Nick at the Loyal Oak Swim Club. We went every weekend until they closed. I would run into Meredith off and on after that. I just saw Nick and Meredith a couple of months ago at the Huntington Bank in Barberton. My sympathy goes out to her and Debbie and Tammy and their families.

In this beautiful obit covering Nick's life, one thing was left out . . . Nick's devotion to his mother-in-law, Alberta Hawse. In the Book of Ruth, when she said to her mother-in-law, " . . . your people shall be my people, and your God my God," THAT was what Nick lived out in helping Meredith, Tammy and Debbie look after her needs. Can't help but imagine Alberta "being there" when Nick crossed-over to be with the Lord. And my sympathy is with all the family who he now leaves behind . . . for a while. Kathryn Popio
