Ruth Emma Secrist

Ruth Emma Secrist, 93, of Jackson, Ohio, formerly of Streetsboro and Jefferson County, died Jan. 10, 2003 at the Wyngate Nursing Home in Jackson following a lengthy illness.

She was born in Toronto, Ohio, Sept. 6, 1909, a daughter of the late Victor and Alice Bevan Tarr. She and her husband, Ward Secrist, shared an enthusiasm for farming. He preceded her in death, March 30, 1969. She was also preceded in 1941 by a daughter, Ruth Ann Secrist; by two brothers and six sisters. She is survived by her son, Peter (Janice) of St. Pe tersburg, Fla. and her daughter, Priscilla (John) Thomas of Summer field, Fla.; sister, Lucille Schopfer of Pleasant Hill, Calif.; four grandchil dren; and five great-grandchildren.

Ruth was a devout Presbyterian and was a charter member of the Hudson Presbyterian Church. After graduation from Kent State Univer sity, Ruth taught in the Akron Public Schools, where she was the teacher of her beloved pupils at Bettes Elementary, retiring in 1969 after 25 years. She was active in the Ohio Education Association, the National Education Association and the Retired Teacher's Association, as well as the Streetsboro and Hudson Senior Citizens.

Ruth's family and friends are invited to share a Celebration of Life Service at 3 p.m., Easter Sunday, April 20, 2003 at the Everhart Funeral Home, 110 W. Main St., Richmond, Ohio. Special memories in advance preparation for the Celebration may be forwarded to the family in care of the Everhart Funeral Home, P.O. Box 224, Richmond, Ohio 43944. Memorial contribu tions may be made to the American Heart Association or the contribu tor's favorite charity. Private services and interment in Richmond Union Cemetery will be at the con venience of the family.
