Stephen Doerr Obituary

Stephen J. Doerr

Stephen J. Doerr, 54, of Ori on, Michigan, died July 4 fol lowing a long illness.

Born in Ak ron, Steve graduated from The University of Ak ron with bachelor's degrees in Education and in Electrical Engineering Technology. He was employed by B.F. Goodrich/Uniroyal/Michelin in Brecksville, Akron, and Troy, Michigan, and later with AEMS Automotive Engineering in Brighton. Until he moved to Michigan, Steve lovingly cared for his father in their home.

An avid outdoorsman, Steve loved fishing, camping and star gazing. He lived his life as he walked the trails: off the beaten path. The fruits of his walks were always baked in home made berry pies that were the highlight of every family meal. His time spent tying flies netted many a delicious fish fry.

Steve will be met in heaven by those who preceded him: his parents, Anton and Helen; nephew, Eric Rhodes; and brother-in-law, Royce Kyle. Steve's gift to his friends and family was love. Leaving to miss his joyous laugh and gentle humor are siblings, Elizabeth (Jim) Rhodes, Jim (Donna), Mary Louise Kyle, Fred (Diana), and Bob (Martha). Numerous niec es, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews will mourn a favorite uncle. Many very dear friends will miss Steve's place at the campsite, at the office, at the Chemo Treatment Center and his presence in their lives.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Steve's oncologists, Dr. M.S. Shah and Dr. Sandra Hazra and their staffs. The sincerest thanks also go out to Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service, and all those in Michigan and Ohio who offered such wonderful support to Steve and his family.

As testament to his generosi ty in life, Steve has requested that in lieu of flowers, memori als be made to the Interval Brotherhood Home, 3445 S. Main St., Akron, OH 44319. The calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2005 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St., Akron. A Mass of Christian Buri al will be celebrated on Friday, at 10 a.m. at the Church of St. Eugene, 1821 Munroe Falls Ave., Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, officiated by the Rev. Neil Crosby. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery.

What I remember the most about Uncle Steve is his laughter. When we visited Uncle Steve and Grandpa, Dad (Jim) and Uncle Steve would tell the stories from their childhood and they would laugh for hours. Uncle Steve will be sadly missed by us all, we love you.

We extend our deepest sympathy to you and your family. Your brother sounds like he was a very interesting individual. May the memories of the times you spent together be your comfort now during this sorrowful time. Your family now has an angel watching over all of you - may you feel blessed with that thought.

Here's a little memory of my Uncle Steve:

He loved building puzzles, and I remember many trips home to NY, after visiting, that my Dad would have a piece of Uncle Steve's current puzzle in his pocket. It wasn't until a few days after we'd get home that he'd call wondering where his puzzle piece was so he could finish that puzzle. And like that piece of puzzle, I will always be carrying a piece of Uncle Steve in my heart.

You are loved and Dearly Missed,

You're Niece and her family,

Tracy, Tim, Ashley & Austin

Dear Bob, Martha & family,

My deepest sympathy to all of you in the loss of your brother. I never had the pleasure of meeting Steve, however if he was anything like you Bob, I am sure he was an extra-special man.

May the beautiful memories you have of your relationship with your brother somehow help ease some of the pain you are feeling.

God Bless you all.

Love,
