Brian Turley Obituary

Brian Raynior Turley, MD, 41, of Conroe, TX, died Sunday March 9, 2008. Brian was born in Cushing, Okla. on May 26, 1966 to Bob and Janet Turley. He lived his childhood & teen years in Okla. City, St. Louis, Austin and Overland Park, KS. After graduating in 1984 from Shawnee Mission South High School in Overland Park, he attended the University of Texas and in 1988, graduated from the University of Kansas with a baccalaureate degree with distinction in Chemistry. The year of his graduation from KU was the same year KU won the national championship in basketball. KU again won the national basketball championship in 2008. He graduated from the University of Kansas Medical School in 1992 and in 1996 completed a four-year residency in radiology at Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City, serving two years as chief resident. A fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology was completed in 1997 and he was board certified in Diagnostic Radiology and Vascular & Interventional Radiology. Brian joined an established Texas radiology practice at Conroe Regional Hospital. Brian and Ellen Ann Cain were married in Oklahoma City on September 20, 1997 and from that marriage two beautiful daughters were born: Brooke Elizabeth in 1999 and Kennedy Faith in 2001. Brian began his solo practice, Vascular and Interventional Specialists, in 2001 and created a well-known and extensive practice devoted to quality patient care and education of the community. The practice grew as Brain continued to be a locally and nationally recognized and respected physician. Brian excelled at delaying the inevitable and his compassion for his patients fueled him to search for solutions when all other options were exhausted. His experience clinically was leading him to partner in a consultative manner with medical device companies to bring new therapies and treatment to patients. Brian practiced at Conroe Regional Medical Center, Kingwood Medical Center and Huntsville Hospital. He was a member of American College of Radiology, Society of Interventional Radiology, International Society of Endovascular Specialists, American Society of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology, Texas Medical Association, Montgomery County Medical Society, Conroe Chamber of Commerce, The Woodlands, Chamber of Commerce. He served as past-president and was as active board member of Parents Against Cancer. Aside from his professional accomplishments, his proudest achievement and greatest joy was being Brooke and Kennedy Turley's father. He loved his daughters unconditionally and with his entire being and he spent countless quiet moments with both of them. He enjoyed being able to travel with the girls and expose them to a variety of experiences and adventures. They were the light of his life and he was his happiest when they were by his side. Brian enjoyed traveling, reading, snow and water sports, all types of technology, music, movies and learning. He grew up loving animals from frogs and snakes to cats and dogs. He learned to treat animals the way he would later treat his patients with compassion, tenderness and a fierce dedication. In addition to his daughters Brooke and Kennedy, he is survived by parents Bob and Janet brother Eric, nephews Evan and Owen Turley of Tulsa grandmother Dorothy Carpenter of Oklahoma City aunts and uncles Jeanne & Don Croka of Stillwater Lynn & Melissa Carpenter of St College, PA, Don & Trudy McWhirt and Roberta McWhirt of Cushing first cousins Marshall Carpenter, Jill & Matt Croka, Sam & Sara Carpenter, Dionne Boling, Wesley, Darren, Kymer McWhirt and Merle Deer. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Sam E. Carpenter grandmother Irema Turley Cook grandfather Lewey Turley and uncle Leon McWhirt. A memorial service was held in Conroe Texas on March 15, 2008 and a guest registry may be found at mem.com. Brian was a devoted and loving father, son, and brother. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, patients and the Conroe Texas community. Brother Brian you are missed! Just know you are in our thoughts each day. We had some great times. All the great ski trips, road trips to Kansas and Texas during college, and the fun get togethers in Conroe.
Janet and Bob thanks for all you have done for me over the years. The Memorial this past weekend was a wonderful reminder of the great life we all have lived because of the love you and Bob shared for us. Brian you will not be forgotten. You were always a giving and loving friend. God Bless
Love
