Dave Pruitt Obituary

Nov 22, 1949 - March 7,2012 OKLAHOMA CITY Dave J. Pruitt entered into rest on March 7, 2012. He was born Nov. 22, 1949 in Richland, Washington, and was 5 years old when his parents, Forest and Helen, returned to Oklahoma. He graduated from Grant High School, attended UCO and OU. He spent his adult life in the construction business as a home builder and later a remodeling contractor. He was a "jack-of-all-trades," and a master of all of them. He loved carpentry and built many beautiful pieces of furniture and cabinets. He was a Little League football and baseball coach for his sons, Justin and Jeremy. He was active in Boy Scouts of America, Troop 20, as a chaplain, cook, and Scout Master. He was instrumental in helping over 20 boys attain Eagle Scout, including his sons. At the time of his death, he was the president of the Homeowner's Association in his neighborhood. He was married to Ruthray Dukeminier Pruitt for over 42 years, whom he loved with all his heart and soul. He had a gift of finding humor in almost any situation, loved to make people laugh, and Ruthray was his best audience. He was preceded in death by his parents, Forest and Helen Pruitt. He is survived by his wife, Ruthray; son, Justin, daughter-in-law, Amy; granddaughter, Addison; and son, Jeremy, who worked closely with Dave in many construction and mechanic projects. Addison and Dave "Papa" had a special bond and were crazy about each other. He is also survived by brother, Jim and wife Norma; many nieces, nephews, great- nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and many friends. He was one of the most giving and kind persons, and even in death, he gave fully of himself and donated to Life Share. He was influential to many people in all walks of life and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Visitation will held Sunday, March 11, 2012, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home, with family present from 3 to 5 p.m. to receive guests. A come-and-go memorial gathering will be held at Kingspark Club House on Tuesday, March 13, 2012, from 4 to 7 p.m. The family will carry out his wish to be cremated. In all the years we worked together I wondered what the secret was to having a marriage like yours. Every time you talked about Dave the love and respect was obvious. It saddens me to think you've gone all this time without Dave but then I remember your son's.. such an incredible family... Love and family... They never end.

This candle is for you. We so graciously honor you.

Yesterday was your birthday and oh how I wish I was running around with my head chopped off like a chicken trying to find you the perfect yet funny birthday card along with silly hats for all of us to wear and singing you Happy Birthday surrounded by one another....

And how I wish we gathered for Thanksgiving and ate til we couldn't stand it along with our "fancy" butter and had just enough room for each piece of dessert....

You are missed everyday. We love you so much.

Keep smiling down on us....we celebrate your wonderful life and spirit. Happy Birthday in Heaven...and save us a slice of cake because we know we will see you again and oh what a glorious day that will be!

PS....your grandson will be born soon! And we'll take a picture of you to the hospital so he can see you....

We love you...

Hi Dad, it always helps to visit this site and see your face smiling back at us. We miss you everyday. This world feels a little empty. I know your watching over us, just wish we could have one more talk or laugh again. Addison kisses your picture goodnight, we have it by her bed so she can see you everyday. She really loves her Grandma. She calls her MawMaw too. I pray for all of us and I just wish for peace and comfort, especially for Mom. Well Dad we know you already know since you're in Heaven watching us, but we are having another baby. It's a boy too! We know you are proud, we promise to keep your memory alive Dad....you are missed deeply.

Xoxo

My deepest condolences to your family. Because of Scoutmaster David Pruitt's kindness and daily investment of people our Nation stays strong and protected. Not a day goes by in my Navy career that I don't use skills taught from him and Troop-20's leadership. I will miss Dave Pruitt dearly, but will never forget him and continue to follow his excellent example.

I was one of the scouts in Troop 20. I joined a couple of years before he ended his tenure as Scoutmaster of our large troop. (I'm almost 34 now.) We had a blast, he was a strong leader, good guide, and had a likeable/kind dimension about him. We respected him, but we'll remember our scouting memories. To this day, I still remember his winning chili and the chili cook-offs. Good times!!
