DOROTHY COX Obituary

Dorothy L. Cox
Feb. 1, 1939 - Dec. 20, 2020

OKLAHOMA CITY
Dorothy Lou Cox (Garrett)'s faith was made sight on Dec. 20, 2020, at age 81. She passed into eternity while in the arms of her beloved husband, Joe Cox, in their home in Oklahoma City. She was surrounded by family in the hours prior to her heavenly arrival, after suffering nearly five years with Alzheimer's disease. Dorothy Lou Garrett was born in Guthrie, OK Feb. 1, 1939, to Christine & Wayne Garrett. She graduated Wewoka High School, and later married her High School Sweetheart, Joe Cox. They were wed on Feb. 15, 1958, followed by a life full of color and adventure. Dorothy gave her life to Christ at the age of 32, after witnessing a transformation in Joe's new life in Christ. The Lord used Galatians 5:19-21 to open her eyes to her sin and need for a Savior. All who knew her can attest that she lived out her life verse (Col 1:28-29): "to proclaim Christ." She was a faithful wife, a loving mother and grandmother, an inspiring sister, loyal friend, a zealous disciple maker and beautiful image bearer of Christ. She taught Bible classes at FSBC and QSBC in OKC for many decades. She was witty, servant-hearted, bold in her faith, fervent in prayer and clung to the word of God even as her memory faded. Dorothy joins her father, Wayne, and her mother, Christine, in heaven. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Joe; their children, Kent Cox & wife Kelly, Kirk Cox & wife Diane, Tony Cox & wife Beth; 13 grandchildren (22 including spouses) and 20 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Virginia Talbot, of Midland, TX. We are grateful for all our family and friends who have encouraged us during this time. We are especially grateful for both our loving church families and caretakers, Riley, Whitney, Heather and Amy for their investment over this last year of loving care. Most of all, we are grateful to our Lord Jesus whose love is never failing. Services to celebrate and honor her life will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2020, at First Southern Baptist Church, 6400 S. Sooner Rd. OKC, OK 73135. Committal Services will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Oakwood Cemetery, Wewoka, OK. Please visit vondelsmithmortuary.com to share a memory with the family.

I have been waiting to do this. Because it broke my heart when I heard she was gone. She was my second mother. She was beautiful, classy and so nice to me. I have to share. The best baker. Thank you Dorthy for being in my life. Your friend from Orchard Dr.

Dorothy loved her Lord, family & friends. That's what made her special to us. She taught me how to study the bible through Precepts. Those were years that I will never forget. Our prayers are with all of you. We can't imagine how difficult her illness was and now, we can't imagine you being without her. Your friends-Jack and Debbie
