Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Gould Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

Where to start.......Dustin,
Many years have passed since we were such young children. I have been on a journey to locate you and Bethany this year! You two left a big imprint on my family's heart! We have always loved, missed and prayed for you two over the years and hoped and dreamed that one day we would reunite with the two of you! I still do not have Bethany's info but am getting closer everyday! The lord guided me to you first. You were like the brother I never had even though you were in my life for such a short time. I have done a lot of research on you and your passing and hate that I found out 6 years too late! You were a great soul and I hope and pray someday we will meet in heaven! You turned out to be a great man with the big heart you always had. And I want to THANK YOU and all the soldiers for fighting for what you believed in. Just wish you had a chance to live life to the fullest. With the deepest sympathy on this very sad day! Regrets for not following through many years ago.

I remember those days napping in the shop and you were shopping for Indian Flutes online. Oh, and it was not me that blew the circut in Iraq, you should have remembered that 110 does NOT plug into 220...you know that. Miss you my EOD Brother.

Dear Uncle Dustin,
I had a great time at the beach, but it was pretty cold out in the water. I found a lot of shells and sand dollars in the sand. I wish we could have gone on your motorcycle and have gone about 80-90 miles an hour. I miss you and I think about you everyday! I love you with all my heart!!!!!
Sincerely,

To my brother, the hero. You gave your life os others could live. You were an outstanding marine and brother and husband. You would of been a wonderful father, too! You could do anything you put your mind to and you did it to the best of your ability. We had fun growing up together, going hiking on rain mountain, picking our own Christmas trees in the mountains and taking care of each other. I remember that time we lived in Ft. Collins we would always ride our bike and we went to get some ice cream and on the way back home, your ice cream fell on the ground so I gave you mine. That made me feel so good to do something for you. Our life wasn't always easy growing up, but we got through it together. We had our share of fights, but I think that brought us closer. I am thankful for the time I got to spend with you even though I regret not spending more time with you. I will cherish every minute I did get to spend with you. I am so glad you got to spend time with your nephews. They look up to you. We had so much fun in California. We all enjoyed you teaching us how to boogie board. We were watching our home videos the other day and that was on there. We had so much fun walking on the beach with you and looking for seashells and sand dollars. I really enjoyed going with you to walk Nikki on the base and being able to talk to you. I miss seeing your smile and hearing you laugh. I loved it when you played the guitar and your flute. We are all very proud of you! We might not of agreed that being a marine was the right decision, but we know that's what you wanted and you were great at it! You will forever be in our hearts and our memories. I love you baby brother and I always will!!!!!!!!!!

Elizabeth,
I am so sorry for your loss. My deepest deepest sympathy and regret for not having known about you earlier. As you may know, my husband was also an eod tech who lost his life serving the country he loved. I miss him terribly every day. I did not know your husband, but from I read in this guestbook and what little details the guys have shared with me, I would've loved to have met him. Most people tell you that time heals the pain... well, not really... you just learn to live with it. Just remember that Dusty's last heart beat was with your love. He will always be with you and continue to live through you.
Please email or call me. I'm really bad at consoling people, but I'm good at listening. I also have a bottle of wine we can share.

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

“Paid in Full”
To Honor The Service of Fallen and Injured Marines
Marines through and through, they paid the price
Six thousand miles away, we live the life
For which they paid with their blood, spirits and bodies
We will never forget what they paid in full
We hope and we pray that somehow their loved ones find comfort
In God, in the flag, in the memory of their loved ones’ bravery
They’re gone now but we see them still…proud, strong, willing
Covering each other’s backs… courageous, moving forward
What kind of love did they have for us to be willing
To give all for the Black, White, Jew, Christian, Muslim?
We don’t comprehend but we honor you now and forever
You are Our Marines…some living…some not
Forever in our hearts we will cherish your lives
Lives too short yet immortal they’ll be
Highest brotherhood of the Few, the Proud
They stand at attention, and we gaze with awe
Some know their names not, but our admiration for them
Flows limitless within us, between us
They sacrificed their limbs or their lives
Freedom still rings, a soft sound across the miles
It tolls slowly; all of creation takes note
Of lives that were lost for people unknown
Out of sight but not lost; forever among us
The starched blues marching straight
Toward the place where we will meet them
Many years from now…how we loved them…
Well done beloved Brothers and Sisters…You’ve paid it in full
Always Faithful Marines, You Have Paid it in Full

Dear Gould family, I found this guest book just today. My name is Mary-Ann Schroeder. I live in NH and my nephew, Luke Emch, was killed with Dustin on 3/2/07. I know the pain for my husband and me is still unbearable and I cannot imagine the pain your family, like my sister-in-law and her family are feeling. Now that I know your name, I will keep your family in prayer that the Lord will keep you in the palm of his hand and surround you with his love, peace, comfort and strength. Also, take comfort in the fact that your son was and is a true hero and made the ultimate sacrifice. God bless you all. Mary-Ann

To the Gould Family,
I didn't know Dustin, but my roommate is stationed in Iraq, on Dustin's team and was there on March 2. I wanted you to know Dustin, was remembered during a special Easter season Mass at the Basilica in Washington, D.C. I did not know where to send the announcement, so I mailed it to his team in Ramadi. Please know your family is in our prayers.

Man. I wish I knew where to start. I've read all of these hundreds of times and always end up in tears, but here it goes:
Dustin, we grew up together, went to school together and hardly a summer went by where we weren't out with grandpa fishing at lake Konawa or driving golfballs into the neighbor's yard in Byng, or raking up huge leaf piles in the backyard. We had a blast those days at Wintersmith park fishing, losing the pole trying to get the snake..and sitting for hours upon end with our guitars by the lake showing you everything you wanted to learn and you learned so fast, really impressed me. No doubt you would have been a great guitarist. We kind of lost touch through the years, except an occasional phonecall and I remember the HS graduation invitation you sent me and you still looked the same, and you were so loving and giving, it was your graduation yet you sent me a gift, the acoustic electric mike for my guitar. Dustin, I remember the week before I went to Iraq and the phonecall where you told me always think about everything beautiful in life everyday and when you get home you'll appreciate what you always took for granted more, and how we talked about our cruise to Alaska to fish and visit Uncle Ronny up there when I got back from overseas and then I had a close call over there and got all these medals for just being who I am and how I was raised and Dustin I never had the chance to say bye and I wanted to be at your memorial in California or Virginia, and then I really didn't want to remember you like that, I kind of regret not sharing that with you and the family..I had your dad put my medals they gave me on your casket, because Dusty, you are the Hero. As a military officer, I know you did your job and that you were part of a team proud and honorable and wanting to serve your country and provide the blanket of freedom our families and friends sleep under every night and as your cousin, I know you wanted to come home and see everyone and live a wonderful, beautiful life and have children and live to grow old telling your grandkids of your war stories and Dustin, you would have been a wonderful father and any kid would have been proud to call you dad. You have made us all very proud and it seems unfair and I remember when Jason was killed, my heart sank thinking it was you at first..I never really had the oppurtunity to know Jason, and wish I had..I know both of you are in Heaven and it's still hard to really know how to feel. You both influenced and made a difference in so many lives. I'm glad and blessed that we shared so much growing up, and someday I'm going to take you up on that cruise..all around the heavens. love you and knowing you helped make me smile more and will have an impact on me for the rest of my life as a dad, son, grandson, physician, brother and Naval officer. Thank you, and all my heartfelt and deepest sympathy to you Elizabeth and Uncle David and Karen and Bethany and so many others who are hurting. Dustin would want us all to be strong and smile and live life to the fullest, he lives on in all of us and made us better people just by knowing him. God bless.

Bethany, I just wanted you to know your in my thoughts and prayers. It just seems like yestrday that you and Dustin were little and playing in grandmother's back yard. My deepest sympathy goes out to David, Karen; Dustin's mom and dad and to his wife Elizabeth and Grandparents, Bobby and Inez Gould, his uncles, aunts and cousins and everyone who loved and knew him.
I didn't see him in the last few years, but he'll always have a special place in my heart. I'll never forget when David went on a business trip and I watched Dustin for a week. I really got a chance to know what a great kid he was. We had alot of fun together swimming and playing games. He liked frozen grapes and he got me hooked on them. Dustin was the sweetest, kindest person I ever knew. He will be greatly missed and he will always be a Hero to me.

To My Son:
God blessed me greatly when he gave me you, your hair so golden, your eyes so blue. You made me happy everyday we went through,I was so proud to have a son like you. Please forgive me if I never told you enough, how wonderful a child you were, and how I loved you so very much... Though the years have come and gone, and down the path of life you did go along. Life does go to fast we all know. So little time, so much to know. You have made our lives full of joy, how your grown and a man full of God's Glory. I miss you son, and I know you know, that whatever is in the future, you'll be there to soften every blow. So if your far on the wings of doves, or flying with the angels in the sky above. Please look down toward our place, and know we do miss your smiling face. Your heart was so pure, kind and true. How could I ever thank God for a son like you.

We never realize how many peoples lives we touch and make an impact on. All we can do is make the best impression of ourselves every day and make our days as bright as possible and in doing so perhaps help make someone elses day a better one as well.
Seeing the large amounts of people at your memerial services and hearing their testimonials about how you touched them and made such an impact on their lives has astounded me, but is not surprising to me at all. Your smiling face, your ease to talk to, your kindness, your strength and passion towards everything you do; always striving to be the best you could be at whatever your task at hand may be, at home, work, or at play.
You have made me so proud of you. As I watched you grow from a small timid little boy to such a strong couragious warrior and a man but always watching out for you you care about.
I am truly going to miss you being here, and can only hope that I showed you and told you enough how truly proud of you I am and how much I love you. I only wish that I could turn back time enough to tell you goodbye, put my arms around you once more and let you know everything here will be ok; and that we will be together again in heaven.
I am so very very proud of you son,
I love you very much,
and you will forever be with me in heart, mind and spirit.

For all of Dustin's Family:
Whether we remember a child drinking cool-aid out of a water can with a straw, a teenager catching a 50 lb king salmon out of streams of Alaska or a Marine Hero focused on Freedom, We’ll have our memories to cherish until we see him again.
We have Comfort in knowing that "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord" and we know Dustin is. As we complete God's work he has for us here, We'll also be "promoted" and reunited with our loved ones, just as Dustin is now.
Are deepest sympathy and prayers are with you David, Karen, Bethany, Elizabeth and all.
Looking forward to that day!
We love you Dustin!

My husband and I were privileged to attend the graveside services today at Arlington, for SSgt Gould. We had never met Dustin, but he was a valued and respected member of our EOD family. We didn't get a chance to give our condolences to the family in person, but I hope you all know how very much we all grieve with you. I was so gratified to see what an amazing, inspiring turnout you had, though... EOD techs from what looked like all branches, retired and active, and many who had taken off from OCS to be there to pay their respects. There was a lot of love shown today. I hope you felt it, and I hope it helped a little.
May your memories of the good times with Dustin carry you through the hard times to come.
Blessings and Peace for your hearts, in God's time...

Another Fallen Hero ~
My heart breaks as I sign this guestbook of such a courageous soldier who gave his life so selflessly. May he rest in peace knowing that he is loved and remembered by those who knew him, as well as strangers who admired his courage and sacrifice. God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and made the ultimate sacrifice.
We understand what you are experiencing and feeling. No amount of words can ease the pain of your loss. We know first hand there are no words of comfort at this time. We lost our only son 9-3-2004 at the age of 19 and it fells like yesterday. Just know that there are Marine families across the USA who is experiencing your loss and pain. You are not alone. We will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes.

To the family, friends and Marines who served with Dusty.
You never know why you get a thought to visit someone, but when you do, take the time out of "your" busy life and do it.
Yesterday (3-16-07) I got that feeling as I was working close to Monte and Marion Scaffs home in NW Wisconsin...I have known them for many years and they are like family to me and I met Dusty when he was a young 13 year old who came to live with Uncle Monte, Aunt Marion and cousin Amy...when I entered their home I met Marion with a hug, she told me then of Dusty's death and said Monte really needed to see me...he was an uncle who was hurting and needed a friend,,being a fellow veteran brother (US Army 71-74) my thought then was " know I know why I stopped in to visit" my heart hurt as Monte struggled to get up from the couch to hug and cry on my shoulder...As an uncle I could only imagine the pain but could see it in his eyes. Monte showed me pictures of the funneral, talked of the surprise visit Esteban made and what an impact Dusty made on his life and we talked about Dusty and his time we spent together fishing with this smiling, happy go lucky kid who grew up into a strong, proud Marine.
Monte described him best when he said,,,Dusty had a smile that stretched from ear to ear and could melt an ice cube in the middle of a Wisconsin winter and how proud he was of his nephew and what he accomplished in his short life and career in the Marines.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of Dustins family, friends and to the Marines and others still serving over there...May your "guardian angel" watch over you till that big bird takes you home and remember when you get that thought to call or visit someone...DO IT, it just might be what you both need at that special time together.

Dustin,
Where do I begin to explain how you touched my life as well as many others. You were such an amazing person; I am so lucky that I got the chance to know you. You were an incredible man, leader, and marine, but you’ll always be “little Dusty” to me. Your gentle spirit and kind heart radiated through your smile. I’ll never forget the way you would grin and laugh, especially when the guys were giving you a hard time. It was great watching you grow from a young Marine into a confident man and an awesome bomb tech.
In your 28 years, you accomplished, seen, and did more than most people would have in a life time. Even so, your life was just beginning. I was so excited for you to come home, move to Colorado, become a cop (and you would have been an outstanding cop), and get the chance to enjoy a new phase of your life. We really need more people like you in this world.
Your sweet, kindhearted, funny, goofy, loyal, selfless, and courageous self will be with me and those you have touched forever.
Dustin, thank you for serving as a Marine. You personified what a Marine is. Thank you for serving our country, fighting time and time again for our freedom, and for eventually making the ultimate sacrifice. You’ve made everyone who knows you proud.
David, Elizabeth, and Family, my prayers go out to all of you.
Your friend,
Heather

It is with the deepest sadness that I ask the family and friends of SSgt. Dustin M. Gould to accept my offer of sincere and heart felt condolences. I hope that you know that your loss is shared by all of the members of the EOD family but more especially by those of the Marine Corps EOD family. Even those have gone before, the ones that you don’t know and in all probability will never meet. We sincerely appreciate the sacrifices of Dustin, his family and friends.
“Dusty” as he was known by his family and friends is a hero. He is not hero because of where he died or how he died. He is a hero because even though he knew the dangers involved in his job he continued to do it. His duty was to locate, disarm and dispose of IED’s and other explosive ordnance. This is an extremely hazardous undertaking and he knew that, he had done this before but it was his duty. He had lost many friends and comrades performing this duty. This is what makes Dustin is a true American hero. A hero that I respect and hold in the highest regard.
I never had the honor of meeting or serving with Dustin, I had retired from the Marine Corps before he was born, but I knew him. I knew him because Dustin was a Marine Corps Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician. They are indeed a special breed among a special breed. THE MARINES!
His name will go on the EOD Memorial at Eglin AFB. There it will join the names of all of the EOD technicians who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. His name will always be there for all the visitors to the memorial to see.
It would have been a tremendous honor for me to have had the opportunity to work along side of Dustin.
I know the pain his parents feel with the loss of their son. I lost a son 19 years ago. It is a pain that defies description. It is a pain that never goes away. It is a pain that will never end. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. May God Bless and keep you!
Rest in Peace “Dusty” Your tour of duty is complete!

Dusty:
I didn't have the change to get to know you, but my cousin that loves you more than anything in her live told me a lot of things about you, and all that I could see was that you were an incredible man that loved your duties and responsabilities, and I could feel that you and my cousin had a very special connection, I just want to ask you Dusty to give her strength, courage, peace and a reason to live, she needs you and misses you more than ever, please never leave from her soul and heart....and I am very sure Dusty that we were going to get along, thanks for giving to my cousin those beautiful moments that fills her heart...I had a list that I was going to give you when you get here, and I wrote all the things that she did and all the things that she didn't, well Dusty, I think that she will always be on your list, no matter what.
Thank you Dusty for teaching me so many things about life inspite we didn't have the chance to talk, I hope someday we'll do it.
It seems that no matter how prepared one can be, a loss of someone close to us can be very trying.

On behalf of the EOD Marines of MARSOC, I extend my sincerest sympathies for the loss of SSgt Gould. He placed himself at enormous risk to protect his fellow Marines and others from the threats posed by IEDs; a task very few are willing to accept. Take solace in the fact that Dustin saved many lives before his was lost. May God comfort you in your time of grief.

David, Karen, Bethany and dearest Elizabeth - All of you are in my deepest prayers and warmest thoughts. I met Dustin one time when him and Elizabeth had Bryan, I, Tommy and the kids over for dinner :) What a wonderful couple, they showed us a great time while in CA and I can honestly say I had the honor of having dinner with someone that put his life on the line for us - and I will always be a better person because of this. For Dustin's closest family - I am so sorry for what you are going through. Remember God will never put us through more than we can handle - and just remember - we will all see Dustin again, and will be priveleged to pat him on the back (or give him a big ol hug :) for being a hero in everyone's eyes!

Dustin,
I wish I could grab you and hug you. I wish I had stayed in contact with you and gotten to know the man you grew into. My memories are of a little boy that I loved and cared for as my own. Please forgive me for not telling you and Bethany how much you both still mean to me, and that I have thought of you often. I have so many memories haunting me now. Your first pet (a black & white rabbit). Playing Nintendo together. Catching that kid that would bully you and scaring the pants off him. Of how great you were with Tyler, so loving and careing. You and Bethany changed my life forever and I have never regretted one minute that I spent with you both.

I am so sorry for your loss. Dustin was a great man and the sweetest boy I have ever met. I understand the sacrifices he made for me, my family, and all Americans. He paid the ultimate price to protect us and our freedom.
There are no words that anyone can say that will provide comfort to you at this time, I know that from personal experience. We should all be very proud and feel fortunate to have known such an outstanding man. I know he will be missed by everyone but he will always be with us.
