Marc Carpenter Obituary

Carpenter August 20, 1956 - August 19, 2011 OKLAHOMA CITY Marc "Wyndell" Wayne Carpenter was born on August 20, 1956 in a small town in Louisiana where his father, Wayne Carpenter, was preaching, and passed away on August 19, 2011 - just one day away from his fifty-fifth birthday. Marc was preceded in death by both of his parents, Evelyn Lucille Foreman Carpenter and Wayne "Panky" Carpenter. Marc is survived by one sister, Kathi Tisland; two nieces: Brandi and her children; Kandi, her husband David, and their children, Blessing, Canyon, and Tabitha. Over the years and decades, Marc shared many stories and memories of their growing up as "teacher's kids" and "preacher's kids." Besides sharing memories of the good times, Marc would also on occasion share information on the numerous health problems that were endured as he continued to work for the State of Oklahoma in various positions with the Department of Human Services, and also as a minister of music. Marc loved music, and through all his health problems, music was the activity that allowed Marc to have the strength to keep going. Both Kathi and Marc have sung and played piano for numerous churches over the years, showing and professing their love for God, family, and music. Marc had high blood pressure for years, suffered through an extensive 141/2 hour surgery for a brain tumor, a stroke, a broken hip, dementia, and finally congestive heart failure - which was just too much for his body to recover from. He was the music director for literally dozens of churches throughout Oklahoma and Kansas. Until his physical handicaps and limitations, especially walking, became too bad, Marc had returned to Rockwood Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, where he had grown up, to play piano and help with the music to the best of his limited abilities. Funeral service will be held at 2pm, Tuesday, August 23, at Mercer-Adams Chapel in Bethany, with interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Okla. City. Marc was a dear friend. We met at work around 1989 or 1990 and have been friends ever since. I have so many fun memories of him. My prayers go out to his sister and her family. He was such a blessing.

We knew Marc from his time as music director at Walker Avenue Baptist. Tresa played the organ for him and he sang at our wedding. We were shocked when I read of his passing. He obviously touched many people at an early age and I am sure he did the same thing as the years passed. God bless his family during this time.

Dear Carpenter Family,

My husband and I have known Marc for many years as he and my husband previously worked together in the same OKDHS office for a length of time. Although their career paths changed, Marc did contact us on occassion -- even after he left OKDHS because of his health. Marc truly had a servant's heart and the most beautiful singing voice!! Marc is someone who truly left his imprint on the world; he will be greatly missed and always remembered!

Someone already said it better than I ever could:
Imagine stepping onto a shore and finding it heaven. Imagine taking hold of a hand and finding its God's hand. Imagine breathing new air and finding its celestial air. Imagine feeling invigorated and finding it immortality. Imagine passing from storm & tempest to an unknown calm.
Imagine waking and finding it home.
Rest in peace,
John

Dear Carpenter Family,
My prayers go out to your family during your loss. I was a student of Brother Carpenter at NW Classen Highschool from 1973 to 1977. He was a great man and I am sure his children were so loved and sounds like they followed his footsteps with the love of their Church. Keep the Faith.

Marc served as our Minister of Music for a couple of years while I pastored at Dickson Baptist Church. I always enjoyed being around Marc and particularly enjoyed hearing him sing. My sympathies to the family
